That's all I have on why we talk so much about NVDA.

That's very likely. Still, we don't need to be helping China too help them out, no matter what level of tech it is.

US National Security > NASDAQ.

We just sold the ChiComs the rope.

Also a good point. The AI companies were just begging Trump in the last few weeks to invest in them under the guise of combating China. Well, this is one way to do it.

I could actually get on board with the US government backing certain critically strategic sectors and have in the past including this one, but then turning around and selling China chips (even if they are 1 gen behind) just seems unbelievably stupid. But Trump's only mission right now is to raise revenue in any way he can since we have decided not to ever cut spending.

And we aren't smart enough or coordinated enough to pull off something like the Mossad Pager event. Laughable to think we can. We have too many people in the mix and too many traitors within to be able to pull that off.

LOL at thinking that Chi-Nuh doesn't already have the designs for the Blackwell, and any/all other chips for now, and in the future.

This is dumb.

On one hand "China is ass-ho" and the other "Here, China, we're still buds, right?".

Could be, but I thought part of China's problem was manufacturing 4 Nanometer chips?

This isn't going to go anywhere, after "responding positively!" Xi turned around and said they would restrict the sales.

And these chips, along with the Blackwells, are already getting to China through Saudi Arabia and Singapore, why would Nvidia now want to pay a 25% kickback to the WH under this deal?

Interestingly, someone in Sugar Land just plead guilty to selling AI chips to China. He ran a dummy corporation for 10+years that did nothing but then suddenly bought $160MM worth of chips to send to China.

Here's what DOJ has to say about those chips.
Quote:

"Operation Gatekeeper has exposed a sophisticated smuggling network that threatens our Nation's security by funneling cutting-edge AI technology to those who would use it against American interests," said U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei for the Southern District of Texas. "These chips are the building blocks of AI superiority and are integral to modern military applications. The country that controls these chips will control AI technology; the country that controls AI technology will control the future. The Southern District of Texas will aggressively prosecute anyone who attempts to compromise America's technological edge.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/us-authorities-shut-down-major-china-linked-ai-tech-smuggling-network

And now, we're going to sell these chips to them. Great work guys.

We are not selling that. We are selling what was cutting-edge technology about a billion years ago (in tech years).

U.S. President Donald Trump's move to allow exports to China of Nvidia's second-best artificial intelligence chip, the H200, will spur strong demand from the country's tech giants, research institutes, and its defence-industrial complex.

So, Trump will let NVIDA (an American company) dump it's old tech on China, profit billions, and fun the next generation.

And folks here think this is somehow bad. They would probably ***** about him selling bows and arrows to them also.

I don't know dick about tech, but this seems like a big win. Wait til China says, no thanks.

The H100 and H200 are high-speed GPUs used for AI applications and high-performance computing. These GPUs are used for both civilian and military applications.

H200s aren't cutting edge but they definitely aren't "old tech". Each one is still being sold for over $30k new and they're being used in current AI datacenter builds like xAI's Colossus 2.

There is absolutely no reason for us to be selling these to China from a national defense perspective.

I haven't gone back to reread this, so if this was already mentioned, I apologize.

From what I read this morning, the US government will take a 25% cut on all sales of those chips to China.

What's that? A 25% sales tax? Is he now effectively charging tariffs each way?

Day one Trump hater here. I'm not sure what the fuss is about. Selling our stuff to other countries is good. As others have pointed out, these chips have been on the open market for years now. Anyone in China who wants to reverse engineer them has likely already done so.

But he did say that in return, 25 percent of all the revenues from the sales would go to the United States.

With that announcement, Mr. Trump made clear that decisions once made purely on the basis of national security were now up for sale a move of dubious legality, since export licenses cannot be sold under existing federal law.

Also, I have to say, it's good to see Trump supporters opposing this openly. Even though I support what Trump is doing here, I recognize that it's a total 180 and a betrayal of his voters. I love people who care more about the issues than being loyal to a politician, regardless of party. We all need to be more ruthless with the people we vote for.

They already get enough of the profits by taxes. Now you want companies to pay 25% of the gross out of country sales for the right to sell them to other countries?

Don't let anyone ever say you are not in favor of higher and higher taxes.

You see, when you negotiate, you should get something. I get that with Obama and when Biden came along, folks are not used to actually getting something out of a negotiation. So I understand where this confusion comes from.

But, getting 25% on the sale of junk to China is pretty good. Especially when a US company can also make profit selling it's junk.

It's a win-win.

But, I also get the massive TDS around here, so it's not that shocking most don't get it.

Agree. Also pretty typical that anytime you seek permission from the government to do something, they like you to pay a fee. Not my favorite thing but it's pretty flippin typical.

For the TDSers, jumping to the not so bright conclusion that Trump is sacrificing national security to make a buck or to save face on a trade deal… what is the saying now "outside and touch grass". Obviously not the MSC grass, but damn what it takes to arrive at such poor conclusions is baffling, even though expected by now.

I would think the bigger risk is that NVIDIA's market cap will be larger than the national debt soon (I jest, I mean, sort of), and politicians will be held hostage to do anything to prop up the share price.

You think politicians would act in the interest of the US treasury? Only to the extent it lines their own pockets in the process.

Plus the 25% is a fee, not an equity stake.

Nvidia has around $10B in physical assets. Yes, they have a ton of IP, maybe $100B-plus. But patents aren't worth crap unless you license them, use them yourself, and fight like heck anytime there is potential infringement.

Meanwhile, you've got private citizens sitting on $5T in paper gains.

They have over $40b in cash and equivalents, $23b in receivables and $10b in inventory.

Their net income was $100b.

They may be overvalued, but to act as though they are Enronish simply ignores reality.

Physical assets are shown net of depreciation so that has to be factored in.
