A friend sent me this article from TNR. That describes firewood banks, as ways that the poor are provided with free firewood that helps them survive winters. And the interpretation here is that the need for firewood banks shows a society that is not doing well. I.e. if society was doing well, people wouldn't need free firewood to survive.
So apparently there is federal funding to support this. See the first link below.
I've never heard of firewood banks in Texas. For those of you in rural areas, are you aware of any? I believe that in general in Texas, the vast majority of persons do you use wood stoves for heat.
