It would have been 9-0 Republican seats. Hopefully these Senators get replaced in the next election. If you have money to donate, donating to their opponents would be good.

Quote:

The Republican-dominated Indiana Senate spurned months of demands from President Donald Trump as it voted 31-19 on Thursday to reject a redrawing of the state's congressional maps.

The final outcome remained uncertain until 21 Republicans joined all 10 Democratic senators in blocking the redistricting plan. The proposal didn't even win support from a majority of the 40 Republican senators.

The Democrats will not respond in kind where they have similar ability to impose their will by numbers. Again, Republicans playing by rules the other party long ago abandoned.

The only saving grace is that heavy Dem states keep losing population and thus Congressional representation. NY, CA, PA, etc.

Maybe by 2050, Texas will pass California in the number of US Reps. And as long as Florida keeps on its trajectory and can stay conservative/Republican we should be in good shape.

They already have. Just look at the maps of the blue states up north and out west. Completely unfair against the Rs. Now Cali and others have stepped on the gas to make it even more unfair.

It's got to be intentional by the Republicans. They want to lose. No party that wants power, and wants to win, does things like the republicans do. They want us to stay locked in perpetual gridlock where nothing the American people want gets done.

The problem is that if the Dems get control of the WH, the count will be rigged. We are already short several seats because of the rigging done during the last census.

Blue states packed themselves with illegals because our stupid laws say that illegals count towards representation. They may have lost American citizens to red states, but they have made up for it by bringing in hordes of illegals. It's infuriating.

Funny you guys don't realize it's going to be a wave election in 2026. Put your finger in the air and see which way the wind is blowing. This Indiana thing doesn't matter. And watering down GOP districts in this regard is actually going to cause some to lose their seats as seats that were thought to be safe turn out not to be.

See Mayor of Miami for example. Should have been GOP for sure. Lost.

Gutless Republicans are constantly backing down from a fight. The Dems are our enemy. Republicans need to be ready to punch the Dems in the face without mercy until they have eliminated them as a political force. Never show mercy, never back off, just attack continually and use every bit of leverage possible until that cancer cell of a party is nothing but a reference in history books.

Instead of 3/5ths, how about 0/5ths?

I'd love to see a Republican bring that proposal forward just to watch Dems heads explode.

Does history show there usually is a flip of sides in congress during the midterms? Anyone with a brain knows that. But, as elections have shown, especially in '20 and '24, nothing is guaranteed until the last vote is counted.

Still, I don't one l think anyone saw what happened in Miami in their bingo card. That was a surprise for sure.

there are several interlocking political positions in Miami Dade County.

it's not like that Mayor of the City of Miami is some juggernaut of millions of people.

DeSantis chose a candidate no one liked.

Byron Donalds when he is governor will fix it.

For whatever reason, MAGA has played really badly in Indiana this cycle. The current governor, Mike Braun, has gone Trump mini me in his approach and is now pretty unpopular. I have family up that way, and from what they say the redistricting concept played really badly across a lot of Deep Red districts. The local state senators were getting a lot of angry pushback from their voters. The final push from Washington basically amounted to threats, which also played really badly.

A lot of the rural farming districts have been hit hard by the trade war which may have something to do with it. The wealthier, urban parts of the state also seem to have the knives out for the MAGA folks.

It makes you wonder just how fast the inevitable tide will turn against the Trump machine when it is not a threat to politician job security which seems to be the case here.

It is interesting how the local politicians showed so much spine on this. They had been on the wrong end of swatting and bomb threats for several weeks.

Republican state Sen. Republican Mike Bohacek, who opposes redistricting, said in a statement Monday that he was the target of a bomb threat last week.

"This recent pattern of threatening behavior and intimidation attempts are not only concerning, but also illegal," Bohacek said. "I hope to see justice for this type of behavior."
Bohacek, who has a daughter with Down syndrome, said Friday that he intends to vote against redistricting after Trump used a slur for those with intellectual disabilities to describe Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. He received the bomb threat the same day, according to his statement.

State Sen. Jean Leising, saying she was the target of a pipe bomb threat over the weekend, said Monday in a statement: "I believe these threats are a result of the redistricting pressure on Indiana. Threats like these to public officials are unacceptable, and I know law enforcement will do everything they can to bring whoever did this to justice."

She added: "This threat will not stop me from serving my community to the best of my ability. As legislators in the Indiana General Assembly, we must do what is right for our constituents."

I know that is the throw away coping line when Republicans don't get what they want, but it belies a larger and more fundamental point that the current GOP is really a sort of unstable mash of new and old that will likely collapse after Trump leaves office and likely dies over the next 5-10 years.

The GOP is mostly traditional conservative voters who were fine with the Reagan and two Bush terms don't have any love for the Trump family but hate the Democrats even more. There is a new, smaller group that embraces bigger government, progressive policies, and has real antipathy for "The Deep State" aka the traditional Washington institutions that used to be built up and managed by the traditional republican leaders.

The ones throwing out the RINO line tend to be in the second camp even though they don't actually like the core tents of the Republican party that were in place going back to the Eisenhower Administration.

As someone who actually lives in Indiana, I can tell you that there is a similarity to Texas in that not all Republicans are the same and the leadership of the Indiana Senate is on the red side of purple. This failed because of internal Indiana politics, not because of the unpopularity of MAGA (and I say that as someone who avoids that label)

Mike Braun is not unpopular, that is a load of crap.

There will be electoral consequences of this, I can tell you that. There will be a significant change in State Senate representation in the next election based on this vote.
