At this point I say just hand the keys to everything to the democrats. It'll all collapse in 5 years then we can get back to putting it together again.

Funny you guys don't realize it's going to be a wave election in 2026. Put your finger in the air and see which way the wind is blowing. This Indiana thing doesn't matter. And watering down GOP districts in this regard is actually going to cause some to lose their seats as seats that were thought to be safe turn out not to be.

See Mayor of Miami for example. Should have been GOP for sure. Lost.

Funny how you continually celebrate the Democrats winning and their polices yet you are a Reagan Republican.

Weird, right?

It's not a cope if it's true. I refuse to believe these people lack enough integrity to put aside their petty differences with Trump and advance policy and party forward. The Texas house GOP was pulling their **** with Joe Straus well before MAGA and Trump.

That is the problem with big tents. There are still groups with very different beliefs wandering around underneath and they don't consider their differences to be petty. they consider them to be fundamental and very important.

What do you think those traditional 1960s Northern state Republicans with their fairly centrist views and fiscal interests really thought of Nixon's Southern Strategy? They viewed the new crop of southern republican voters as low iq, racist white trash but they held their nose because it kept them in power at the expense of the new breed of welfare focused populists and civil rights leaders in the Democratic party. Later, folks like Bill Buckley and others would work to purge the GOP of what they suddenly called kooks, bigots, and anti-semites because those folks became political liabilities and they could hold office without pandering the the extremes.

That is the reality of political parties . . .temporary marriages of convenience between groups that really look down on each other on a fundamental level. Trump's coalition is no different.

If Democrats take full control, they will ensure they never give it up again.

Nuke the filibuster

Statehood for DC and Puerto Rico

Pack the Supreme Court

Complete federal control over elections and redistricting (thus ensuring perpetual Democrat majorities)

Outright gun bans and confiscation

Criminalize any dissent and opposition to their policies, usually under the guise of "hate speech."

And anyone who knows history knows what comes next.

I'd say the one thing that's different is that we've never had an entire political party solely following the rambling policy decisions (even ones that are fundamentally against the overall standard policy decisions) of one person solely because it's his opinion for that day and they don't want to have the army of online morons calling in bomb threats or get threatened with a primary if they disagree. It will be interesting to see what happens once he's gone. No one draws the same level of personal loyalty regardless of policy, so republicans will have to work to replace the Trump or bust voting block because the Dems never have any problem sticking together.

we're already seeing this play out. prominent republican figures and former allies of trump are jockeying to position themselves in the post-trump gop because there's no longer much consequence for breaking from him.

for example, vance is the heir apparent to the gop and was a vocal and visible champion for trump's agenda early this year when their admin's favorables were still above water. now he's been keeping his head down, partially because we learned from kamala that being the VP of a deeply unpopular president is a liability.

1) There is a 3rd group within the GOP, like me: fiscal conservative, socially leave-me-the-****-alone. Trump is neither of those, BUT while he's a fiscal liberal he's NOT a progressive. Progressives drove people like me to vote for Trump's silly ass with your Trans Library Hour and other groomy **** . So, in a fight versus a progressive, he was the "lesser of two evils", even if he does idiotic, liberal things (like tariffs, and big govt **** ).

2) I warned of Trump being a lame duck on day one, and this is some evidence of that currently being true. I just hope the GOP hangs on, in power, and either Vance or Desantis can take the reins and lead us conservatively. The idiots voting against this are problematic to that end.

3) Yes, the GOP is full of liberals and/or people only interested in staying in power. Even at the state level.

  • The only rambling I see is your > 60 word sentence.
  • President Trump has tried to build a coalition, especially among the voters.
  • He appointed a liberal Democrat to his cabinet that focuses on health. Should he start openly voicing anti Trump rhetoric he will be gone. That is how it should work.
  • Those he hires are for specific roles not their divergent views which is how it should be.
  • One of his most trusted advisers is gay.
No one draws the same level of personal loyalty regardless of policy, so republicans will have to work to replace the Trump or bust voting block because the Dems never have any problem sticking together.

President Trump makes decisions I don't agree with, mostly fiscally irresponsible decisions. I back him because the important policies I agree with are aimed at maintaining our fundamental values and freedoms. These are not the values of the Democratic Party leadership.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

It's got to be intentional by the Republicans. They want to lose. No party that wants power, and wants to win, does things like the republicans do. They want us to stay locked in perpetual gridlock where nothing the American people want gets done.

Many of these clowns have decided it's easier to stay the minority, blame the other side for the govt's failures, and get rich all along the way. That has become the core principle of the republican party

It boils down to this - they aren't willing to make the cuts that it will take to get us on the right track. That will just get them voted out. So best to just be the vocal minority, raise a stink which raised money, and ultimately get nothing done.

So it's a ridiculous strategy but it's that way because we, the people, are a bunch of tit suckling losers

For whatever reason, MAGA has played really badly in Indiana this cycle. The current governor, Mike Braun, has gone Trump mini me in his approach and is now pretty unpopular. I have family up that way, and from what they say the redistricting concept played really badly across a lot of Deep Red districts. The local state senators were getting a lot of angry pushback from their voters. The final push from Washington basically amounted to threats, which also played really badly.

A lot of the rural farming districts have been hit hard by the trade war which may have something to do with it. The wealthier, urban parts of the state also seem to have the knives out for the MAGA folks.

It makes you wonder just how fast the inevitable tide will turn against the Trump machine when it is not a threat to politician job security which seems to be the case here.

"This recent pattern of threatening behavior and intimidation attempts are not only concerning, but also illegal," Bohacek said. "I hope to see justice for this type of behavior."
Bohacek, who has a daughter with Down syndrome, said Friday that he intends to vote against redistricting after Trump used a slur for those with intellectual disabilities to describe Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. He received the bomb threat the same day, according to his statement.

State Sen. Jean Leising, saying she was the target of a pipe bomb threat over the weekend, said Monday in a statement: "I believe these threats are a result of the redistricting pressure on Indiana. Threats like these to public officials are unacceptable, and I know law enforcement will do everything they can to bring whoever did this to justice."

She added: "This threat will not stop me from serving my community to the best of my ability. As legislators in the Indiana General Assembly, we must do what is right for our constituents."
