I was deployed to Iraq/Syria in 2021. Spent a lot of time bouncing between Al Hasakah and Green Village and from what I could tell it was mostly to protect the Kurds and jockeying for control of Syrian oil fields against the Russians.

There's a really good video on YouTube by Epic History about the history of that region. All of the various Islamic
Caliphates / Ottoman Empire, etc. Delves into the different families who rules, all descendants in some form or another of their prophet. Also some great videos on the multiple Crusades to gain back some of the territory lost to them.

Here's the thing. As Christianity wanes in the West, through Liberlaism/Progressivism, those mother****** are still at it. They haven't forgotten. No matter what the woke fairy-dust politicians say, these people are still doing what they've been doing since the 7th century.

I understand that these are the surface level reasons or supposed logical reasons for doing so, but I don't care.

Counter terrorism: nuke any area where terrorism is sourced or shows it's face
Counter Iran proxies: Israel has done a bang up job on their own in greatly mitigating this threat; let them continue
Oil Field Security: we don't need their oil
Stabilization of a country with new leadership: he's Al Qaeda. I get he's trying to shed that image (supposedly) but I don't care. He can do it on his own.

People are so quick to try to "score points" now a days.

Any GWOT vet knows that "local security forces" in the ME are likely to contain an unknowable % of disloyal opportunists. "Green on Blue" was the shorthand for this type of attack back then. When an enemy dons the ally's uniform, they aren't "friendly." The fact of the attack shows they were merely a deceptive enemy.
