I'd be fine to limit the death penalty to cases where there is absolutely no doubt.

But kill them quickly and publicly so it's actually a deterrent.

Edward Busby was convicted in 2005 - TWENTY YEARS AGO - of the murder of a retired TCU prof for a little money. $775. What a champ.

His date with the needle is set for May 14, 2026.

I have my issues with the death penalty. But if we're going to do it, let's do it a lot more expeditiously in order to maximize its effect as a deterrent.

IB4 "ThE dEaTh PeNaLtY iS nOt A dEtErReNt". It's one hell of a deterrent for the guy getting executed.

I have no issue with the death penalty, and think those sentenced to that, with irrefutable proof and evidence like Mangione for example, they should be dead before supper time of the day the person is sentenced.

Make it PPV with proceeds going to the families.

BTW, a girl I went to school with got raped and shot (but survived) by a man who got the death penalty for a murder that he successfully committed.

It took 11 years before that ****** got the needle, but my friend was sure happy to see him gone.

Agreed...if it's going to take 20 years, then they should spend that time in a gen pop stockade with cheek spreaders installed for those 20 years.

The victim in this case was one of the kindest people I've ever known. She wouldn't have wanted him or his accomplice put to death. I can safely say that no one who really knew her will gain any satisfaction from his inevitable execution. For what it's worth…

That's nothing. I was in a mass shooting in 1989. The killer, Richard Farley, is still on death row. He's in California, so they will actually ner put him to death.

Last year, someone was trying to get his sentence reduced. They did not reduce his sentence.

It's so wrong and hard for all who were involved.

On the one hand, I agree that procedural delays and endless appeals feel like justice delayed. On the other hand, if the state is going to kill someone, they had better get it right.

This. I used to be a much bigger proponent of the death penalty, when I was younger. As ive gotten older and seen the corruption and bias of these judges and politicians, I dont like giving them the authority to kill the masses.

Judges and politicians don't assess death penalties. Juries do.

Live in Singapore (expat).
Fellow was recently caught smuggling >30 ounces of heroine.
He was tried and convicted in ~3 months.
Attorney submitted his one appeal and it was denied, approximately 3 months.
One month later he was quietly hanged at a secure site.

Don't bring illegal drugs into this country.
And I haven't found anyone who feels sorry for him either.

Curtis and Danny Harris were executed approximately 15 years after their brutal murder of Texas Aggie Tim Merka just before Christmas in 1978. The executions were 4 weeks apart.

Danny held Tim Merka down while Curtis hit him over the head with a jack until Tim Merka was dead.

I was surprised by how happy I was when they were executed om 1993. I was shocked to find out that they were still alive until then. They should have been executed much sooner.

For what it's worth, I drove a school bus in 1973 and Curtis Harris was one of the students on the bus. He was easily the meanest s.o.b. I have ever encountered. His brother Danny used to stand outside the bus and try to put a hex on me.

At the time of his trial, there were plenty of people arguing that Curtis Harris should not get the death penalty because he was 17 when they murdered Tim Merka.

The flip side of not serving justice when it is due is Rosebud's own Kenneth McDuff. Look it up if you want? It's why I am a proponent of the death penalty and getting it right the first time.

The average time spent on death row is 11.05 years.

If you want to learn more about the history and ins-and-outs of Texas's death penalty, check out this website:

https://www.tdcj.texas.gov/death_row/

It's full of juicy details. A couple of things have changed. First, there's been an addition under "Death Row Facts" about the federal death penalty. And, sadly, the TDC no longer posts the inmates' last meals under "Executed Inmates." However, that category has been replaced with their statements (which is telling since most of the inmates confess and apologize for their crimes).

I used this website a lot while teaching Texas State and Local Government for 20+ years. At first, my students were shocked and almost appalled that we collected this information. By mid-semester, they couldn't help themselves and would periodically ask, "Are we killing anyone this week?" I miss them.

Happy hunting, everyone! I bet you'll be addicted to this website … at least for a while.

You're correct. The last time California administered the death penalty was 2006.

All death penalty appeals should be expedited. Ridiculous how slow our justice system is on multiple levels.
