Both past and current leadership at BU should be pressed to answer questions specifically about the claim that one or more cameras were taken off line to protect Palestinian demonstrations.
I hold a petty high security clearance and work in buildings that have security cameras. These builds have really good coverage without the need to have an abundance of coverage.
Typically there are one for each side of a building. Multistory buildings are even better when paired with 360 degree cameras. You can see the face of a smart phone from 8 stories up. The higher in elevation the greater the envelop to monitor.
So to determine what was supposed to be covered I would ask BU to share what the purchase order for the camera security system. Include any additional PO's for additional installs.
These PO's will lay out hat the requirements were, every camera will have a unique tag, where was the security camera control room? Did they have more than one? They should have 24 hr staffed monitoring. There should be a master drawing that locates all cameras and their monitoring views and should identify all blind spots.
There is no excuse to say….we have hidden cameras and we don't want to give away their location.
If BU had given Palestinian the ability to avoid security cameras then there will be others that have done the same.
I think what one would find at least is a network that really never worked. At worst, the idea that leadership might have made the university police take cameras off line to create dead spots…..well they should be held responsible.
I figure 2 static cameras on roof
4 to 5 360 cameras along the perimeter up high
1 to 2 360 cameras at ground level
4-6 static cameras throughout the inside of building.
