Assuming there isn't something incendiary missing from the video, this cop needs to be fired and the attorney general needs to investigate DPD.

Don't worry. Our local DPD shill will be along shortly to tell us why this is ok.

If the Christians did nothing wrong, sue the pants off DPD and the tax payers foot the bill.

Such a CF!

...and nothing changes.

Why don't they show the whole video, not just the last part. Asshats not following Dallas PD directions. These guys are a public nuisance just looking for attention.

They may be annoying but they have a right to be in a public space, especially a public square and share their gospel.

I am sorry but they are just attention *****s, if they really wanted to do some good, then go to Harry Hines and talk/preach to all the crack heads and prostitutes walking the street.

You got a long way to go to understand how our system works.

They don't have to satisfy the cops.

Being attention *****s isnt an arrestable offense. In fact the standard for removing someone from public property for speech is pretty high.

If they weren't using microphones, weren't impeding traffic, or weren't breaking a law, id be interested in the why.

I've never seen a "Christian" street preacher who was there for any purpose but to attack and be confrontational. I saw one in Houston scream at a group of little girls wearing shorts that they were dressed like *****s, and scream at the parents walking with them "why do you dress your daughters like *****s?" Also saw some angry parents ready to knock some teeth out.

I suppose confrontational a-holes trying to start trouble can speak freely, but don't cry about it when somebody starts swinging.

This is about cops arresting Christians for their first amendment rights, not about upsetting some amoral idiots passing by. You don't get to arrest people for speech in America. Period. Stop trying to justify it.

So people are "amoral idiots" because they got angry when they were walking through downtown Houston with pre-teen daughters wearing shorts, and some pretend Christian screamed that they are dressed like *****s?

And I never tried to justify arresting anyone. Just said if you are hiding behind Christianity to attack people, dont be surprised if they attack you back.

The cops are there to protect their right to speak, not to retaliate fo the dad's being offended.

This is pretty basic constitutional rights that is well understood by most Americans. On pretty much every side.

Your situation is completely different than the OP… But again, you don't get to arrest someone for speech in America, even if you find it egregious. If you think you can or should, you are in fact, an idiot.

You seem pleasant; I bet this time of year REALLY pisses you off, especially if some "attention *****" suggests you 'remember the reason for the season.'

As an attorney & confessed Constitutional Law geek, I hope you're courageous enough to continue to throw to the wind both caution & apparently ANY meaningful understanding of the 1st Amendment by sharing another riveting analysis about future "Free Speech" incidents; if we utilize both comments thus far on this thread as a baseline, I'm curious if future posts reveal you're merely an anti-Christian provocateur, OR, will your commentary inadvertently reveal the actual reasons for any hypocrisy &/or bias that serve as the underlying justifications for what YOU believe warrants "Free Speech" protections versus what doesn't.

Lastly, Merry CHRISTmas to you & yours!

**EDIT: auto-correct misspelling.

Agree. These idiots with bullhorns are a disgrace to Christianity. They shouldn't be arrested for being a moron, but these guys are attention seeking morons hiding behind 1st amendment protections. They are the kids that we used to wedgie in MS.

Not here to get into it on rights being suspended in this situation. But I don't think it's a derail to give opinions on the overall subject.

These types are outside the Astros games all the time. They are relentless and I feel that they do more bad than good. I've always wondered where they worship.

Oh good Lord, are you in a relationship with, or share kinship to, AggieTerri???

Aside from an apparent shared disdain for Christians, whenever another employs an absolute like "never" (or "always") in their comment, I immediately question the veracity of any claims they make therein.

Naturally, beyond my initial inclination to call BS on "every" encounter you 'allegedly' had or witnessed involving an 'alleged' Christian street preacher, I'm now curious what are YOUR motivations behind the moronic reasoning you stated & implied in the "Free Speech" scenario you cited that only involved words (since "speech" has been defined by the SCOTUS to include conduct/ actions too; I felt that's an important distinction to make).

Specifically, are you advocating for &/or justifying physical retaliation against another based solely upon one's subjective impression, conclusion, &/or inference towards what someone said, even if such is weighed heavily by a subjective religious intolerance &/or simple idiocy???

In other words, have you ever witnessed a "pretend" Muslim street preacher say &/or preach anything that you perceived was subjectively inappropriate to another, especially YOURSELF? If so, would it be OK then if that "pretend" Muslim got assaulted; is there any chance physically assaulting another b/c they were 'preaching' their religious preference be considered a "hate crime" in your or Terri's world??

Lastly, do you realize Texas is a "mutual combat" state? For the most part, this means 2 parties can mutually agree to engage in physical combat with one another. Therefore, why don't you try that instead of going straight to battery/ assault?

After all, at least in Texas, "Progressive Vigilantes" MIGHT insulate themselves from a 'hate crime' charge IF they prove they aren't filled with hate towards another solely b/c of their race, sexual preference, gender, religion, country of origin, etc.

IMHO, that's a tall ask b/c it's the very definition of 'those people'; accordingly, an effective defense must demonstrate & emphasize they are an impulsive, shallow-minded, meat-headed ******bag that cannot "live & let live" and must instead challenge people to fights in a "Mutual Combat State" b/c doing so is next-level 'virtue signaling', as well as indicative of other generally low IQ folks, which defines a 'Progressive' b/c they are so easily manipulated to 'hate' others, especially Christianity & not any other religion, irrespective of what a non-Christian might potentially say or do in their presence, & absolutely under similar circumstances even if/when such is OBJECTIVELY offensive to a reasonable person.

I hope y'all keep this is mind; oh, & Merry CHRISTmas to you & yours!!

Oooh, we got us a tough guy in here. It's easy to call people liars when hiding behind a screen.

But it happened just as I described it, outside of the Rockets arena after an Ed Sheeran concert. I was standing outside waiting for my wife and daughter. Screaming buffoon with a bullhorn started screaming at 12 year old girls that they were dressed like *****s. Then asked the parents walking out with them why they dress their daughters like *****s. Then started backing up towards the cops screaming stay away from me and don't touch me when the parents started coming at him. There were 4 cops standing nearby… like they knew there was going to be trouble.

Clowns like that are not preaching. They are a caricature of Christianity, and they are certainly doing more harm than good.

I've encountered "street preachers" all over the country… usually outside of concerts or sporting events, and have never encountered one who was anything other than a shrieking lunatic seeking confrontation.

Interference With Public Duty - In Texas, "Interference with Public Duties" (Texas Penal Code 38.15) is a crime for anyone who criminally negligently interrupts or impedes a public servant (like police, firefighters, paramedics, or health inspectors) while they're performing their job, covering actions beyond mere words, such as getting in an officer's way during an arrest or disrupting an emergency response.

Without seeing the whole incident, that video is insufficient for us to judge whether this was a good arrest or not.

48 hour rule.

I'll add to what was said above - I've never seen a street preacher outside a sporting event who wasn't a flaming attention *****. The plight of these two guys is WAY down n my list of what I care about. They could have avoided arrest by not making asses of themselves.

There is absolutely not enough information here to suggest the cops did something wrong. It's all he said she said. One guy asked what the arrest was for and the cop gave a valid reason, but we didn't see the incident in question. I'm inclined to believe the cops here. My guess is that they were standing in a spot that made it difficult for the cop to do his job like directing traffic.
