NSIAP…. But just saw this.

BREAKING: U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein, a Clinton appointee from 1998 who is currently 92 years old, has been assigned to preside over Nicols Maduro's case in the Southern District of New York.

Hellerstein refused to move Donald Trump's "hush-money" case from state to federal court.

In May 2025, Hellerstein blocked the Trump administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport alleged Venezuelan gang members (linked to Tren de Aragua) within the Southern District of New York.

92 years of age. This person was here/there for a reason, and now this Chess Piece comes into play.

92, really?

Normally, 92 is the most redass number there is.

The real controversy/conspiracy…orthodox Jewish judge. Seriously, he's on senior status.

This won't be a one week, or one month trial. In fact, it probably won't go to trial imho, as I expect the Maduros will take a plea deal to provide evidence and remain incarcerated for 20-ish years.

Why? If this goes to trial he will get acquitted in NY.

99% of the time it's random. Sometimes it isn't if DOJ brings a group of cases in succession with the same defendants.

They don't want to win. They want Venezuela to pick or obtain a new government with the pretty explicit implication that the new government will benefit greatly from being our friends and suffer consequences if a Maduro acolyte tried to assume control.

A 92 year old federal judge is, in all likelihood, not doing squat. His staff attorney is the real judge. This is a problem that is never talked about. Federal judges abdicating the actual opinion and legal analysis to staff.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

If judge assignment is truly 99% random, then there is clearly something fishy going on. As these cases with Donald Trump being involved to any capacity show, there is nothing random there.

My Mom will be 92 at the end of the month. She is killing it for someone 92 years old. She quit driving at 90 but she remains active and lives mostly on her own. In no way shape or form could she still be doing secretarial work much less what is expected from a Federal Judge.

But people (effing idiots, actually) still say we don't need age limits. SMDH.

And you make excellent points in that she is killing it for someone her age. My dad is in his late seventies and he is also "killing it" for someone his age. Compared to his 50-year-old self, though, he doesn't hold a candle to his "younger" (50-year-old) self. And trust me, his 50-year-old self couldn't hold a candle to his 35 year-old self.

Like I mentioned above, age limits are needed for a reason. No one over a certain age, let's say 70-75, can honestly say they're as physically and mentally capable as their 25-year-old self, or even their 35-year-old self.

Age limits are needed to save us from the geriatric.

There's definitely a fine line in there somewhere. I don't know if 70-75 is it but it sure as heck isn't 90+.

That's the 1% of the same defendant with similar charges. It happens more often than you think.

No judge should still be on the bench at 92. Should have to retire at 65, or earlier.

I got to talking to an older gentleman in the checkout line at our local grocery store, he turned out to be a federal judge. He was using one of those 4 footed canes and looked to be over 80. Pretty sure it is one of those positions you work your way up to when the guy ahead of you dies in the position.

It's not about working your way up. It's about "retiring' to senior status to maintain full salary, while doing 25-75% of the work.
