Years ago (okay, decades ago), when I was practicing for a moot court argument, I got dinged by one of the practice judges because I was starting all of my responses to questioning with "Respectfully, Your Honor…". I didn't even realize I was doing it until it was pointed out.


A more subtle approach might be, "That's a good question....."

Need more details here. Did the cowboy finish and come back as if all was well and good? Did he leave immediately disgusted once the big reveal happened? And if the former, did you guys tell him that you knew or keep it a secret amongst yourselves and joke behind his back going forward?
