Have had a Volvo in my life since the day I was born. Family tradition or whatever. Great cars!

Mom passed in '18 and my daughter inherits a 5 year old S60 with 12k miles. For $85 to change the title - score! Chinese piece of crap.

When we sold that poorly built Volvo in name only it was a beautiful day. Our mechanic who never shows emotion, smiled and said good when I told him we sold it. He hated that car more than we did. What the Swedes built into
quality, safety and performance the Chinese gutted and ruined.

Their golf carts are awful, too. Several friends bought them because they were cheap, but they rust and "get loose" all over in nothing flat.

Really a strange thread considering all the foreign cars already made here.

This board and the right in general has become pretty anti-China in recent years. This thread is an attempt to create a gotcha from a pro-Trump crowd with regard to China policy. It failed but that was predictable. The OP doesn't understand why we're anti-China so he couldn't predict our reaction to this news.

Correct. That's all the OP does these days is drive by trolling and gaslighting.

And the reason Trump wants them made here is because they would otherwise undercut the entire US automotive market and destroy it. We can't compete against cheap Chinese cars especially if they are actually as good as the media says they are now.

So, he will let them sell here only if they take on our all of our cost inputs.

I personally would never own a Chinese car because it would be full of spyware and malware. Plus, f* China.

China is the leader in automated manufacturing these days. This seems like a great way to facilitate a large scale knowledge transfer and teach their techniquess to our manufacturing sector.

My VW Atlas was made in Chattanooga, TN.

Any auto manufacturer that wants to build in the USA is welcome to.

I'd rather buy a VW made in the USA than GM made in Mexico.

OP is a known troll account, it doesn't care if it gets "owned" or anything else, it already accomplished what it wanted. The second post by the troll account was just to prevent the thread being locked for "drive by" posting.

There was a WSJ review last week that basically said it was the best car they had ever driven. Unique features, etc.

I still won't own one though.

Well, to be fair, your OP was one of the dumbest questions in the history of questions.

No word yet whether the Chinese will execute their U.S. employees who fail to meet certain goals and then harvest organs from those they kill. I will post about it if I hear anything!!

I don't think is "bad Trump" but I don't want the red commie Chinese operating anything in this country. They should all be expelled. This should be 101 kind of stuff.

That said, just because he said that doesn't mean, at all, that the Chinese could pass the requirements to actually start building auto plants in the US. Which he knows.

Where?

In the Chinese EVs are very good magazine?

;-)

I've seen reviews by car enthusiasts given the chance to "car guy" the vehicles and they concur. Now....long term? Who knows.

Related to this, read a report this morning that Trump is now considering rescinding the steel and aluminum tariffs because of how much it is harming manufacturing and driving up costs.

That of course was very predictable. That it would hurt manufacturing, and also the upcoming TACO.

Hard for American car makers to be profitable when their inputs are so expensive. Tariff on every part, tariff on all the metal.

Hopefully China brings cheaper vehicles and their EV/hybrids with them. This country needs more cheaper options.

Cheap EVs from China would be a HUGE game changer in the US. Imagine getting a quality EV sedan for 20k. The off-brand Tesla.

Who cares? The point is to employ Americans and spend their money in America.

It's up to them to create a product that sells.

Welcome to the free market

You can imagine whatever you want, but we will see how they can actually compete in a free market, which they have not done

Until they can charge as quickly as you can gas up a car they won't compete.

I won't argue with that. My point being what is the threat of China brings their own car manufacturing here, unless we are giving them taxpayer incentives to do it. Then it's not free market.

They will launch the Yesla, using all the technology their people stole while working at Tesla.

It's not a question of if EV can't compete in the auto market, that's already been proven. Tesla sold over 500k Model 3/Y last year. MY is a top 10 seller at over 300k units and the #3 non-pickup truck sold in 2025. Setting aside the trucks it's the #1 selling American car. The question for this thread is can anyone in the EV space compete with Tesla because the legacy makers have failed spectacularly at it. Maybe a cheap Chinese knockoff will succeed where all but Tesla have failed.

As to charging time that's entirely dependent on your lifestyle. If your life revolves around home with a daily commute, schools and little league fields and you can charge at home it's truthfully a better vehicle than any gas car out there for that lifestyle. I rarely charge anywhere but home and when I do I hit chargers at places I need to go anyway. There's a reason you see superchargers at restaurants and supermarkets more so than gas stations. Plug it in at Cooper's in CS, grab a bite to eat and it's done when you are.

When's the last time you were dead tired as you got near home and had less than 10 miles left in the tank? Did you fill up on the way home despite being exhausted or leave early the next day so you got to work on time? Me? I rolled into the garage at 2%, plugged it in and went to bed. When I woke up the next day it was charged up and ready to go. Your gasser isn't going to fill itself up while you're sleeping.
