This one certainly does hurt, one of my all-time favorites. This may be a bit obscure, but probably my favorite roll of his is "Open Range".

My wife and I were visiting Lost Maples and got an AirBnB in Utopia, Texas. They had a copy of 7 Days In Utopia on DVD so we watched it, not knowing Robert Duval was in it.

Really cheesy movie, but he was great in it as usual. We drove around town and were able to see pretty much all of the filming locations.

RIP Robert.

Apocalypse Now | The Smell Of Napalm In The Morning | Starring Robert Duvall

I could watch the whole entire village scene every day and never get tired of it. "Smell of Napalm" is the signature moment though for sure.

The way Duvall and Robert Downey, Jr. played off of each other in The Judge was brilliant.

My dad served with the 1/9 Cav, 1st Cav Division in Vietnam from Aug '67- Aug '68 and will go to his grave saying how ridiculous that scene is. He tells me how much of a dumbass I am every time I reference it.

Apparently they did it in one take. Only had the jets for 20 minutes. The fact that he didn't flinch is amazing.

Jesus. I just read his NYT obit. It might be easier to list the great movies he wasn't in. Totally forgot about the original True Grit and To Kill a Mockingbird

So many to choose from but a worthy choice nonetheless.

RIP to him.

Have only met one actor in all my years and he was the one. Talked to him briefly and shook his hand at a rooftop party at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis back in the mid 90s.

Agreed.... I didn't know until today that the ending in the movie wasn't the original one (if this is a 'real' video and their description is correct). While I like the theatrical ending better, this one isn't bad either.

Further it is a Francis Ford Coppola script based off of an 1899 novel by Joseph Conrad which itself was based in the Congo.

So yeah, a lot of poetic license was taken.

ETA: I read this in HS. Conrad book was Heart of Darkness

One of his greatest movies is Tender Mercies. He is amazing in it.

Another less familiar one is The Outfit with Joe Don Baker.

Loved his work

Blue Bonnet (Boss) Spearman: "My friend and me got a hankerin' for Switzerland chocolate and a good smoke."

Among other roles he was also the taxi driver in Bullitt.

One of my favorite acting performances of his. This movie was his labor of love and not well known but it is a masterpiece. Great roles from Farrah Fawcett and Billy Bob Thornton as well.

Celebrate Robert Duvall's acting career by watching him in a role you've likely never seen. It got him a best actor in a leading role nomination.
