Being in IT myself, I don't buy it that having such a system is "too expensive". We waste so much money on so many things, why not spend some on this and give the contract to an American company, create jobs for Americans, and not ship it abroad to substandard companies like Infosys/Tata to send us their buggy low-quality products? This is how costs go overboard, because middlemen are making money.
Thing is, we don't need the government to create and maintain their own software.
They could just provide a small rebate for all tax payers, to use existing tax preparation services (ie. Turbotax, etc).
Much less cost, and much better software/UI.
Okay.
So you still think people should pay a business to pay their taxes? This "small rebate" is no different from what we have today.
I used TurboTax for my kids as it was free for them, and I agree, the UI is very good. Better than freetaxusa.
So you are for status quo?
No one is forcing you to use a software to do your taxes. You can still file your taxes using paper forms.
What if that option goes away saying we don't have people to process the paper returns and so everyone has to get it done paying these companies? And when that happens, they get greedy and jack up prices 10X?
Will you be suitably outraged then?
