Being in IT myself, I don't buy it that having such a system is "too expensive". We waste so much money on so many things, why not spend some on this and give the contract to an American company, create jobs for Americans, and not ship it abroad to substandard companies like Infosys/Tata to send us their buggy low-quality products? This is how costs go overboard, because middlemen are making money.

Thing is, we don't need the government to create and maintain their own software.

They could just provide a small rebate for all tax payers, to use existing tax preparation services (ie. Turbotax, etc).

Much less cost, and much better software/UI.

Okay.
So you still think people should pay a business to pay their taxes? This "small rebate" is no different from what we have today.
I used TurboTax for my kids as it was free for them, and I agree, the UI is very good. Better than freetaxusa.

So you are for status quo?

No one is forcing you to use a software to do your taxes. You can still file your taxes using paper forms.

What if that option goes away saying we don't have people to process the paper returns and so everyone has to get it done paying these companies? And when that happens, they get greedy and jack up prices 10X?

Will you be suitably outraged then?

You mean the same gov't that is still storing retirement paperwork in an abandoned mine is going to get away from paper processing in our lifetime?

Mail them paper always
In college I had a tax bill less than $1.50 so I filed an extension early and then filed my tax return on tax day simply to drive up the IRS's processing costs. **** them.

It's really very easy you just register on the IRS website. It's very secure, double authentication, and everything no different than your bank accounts.

I've been paying my taxes and estimated taxes on there for years. It's a breeze.

I even set up my 89-year-old mother this year to do it and she had no problem.

Not really understanding the outrage here.
Asking who the "worst" posters are on TexAgs is like asking which jalapeño at a tailgate is the hottest, it depends entirely on who you ask and how much "maroon-tinted" Kool-Aid you've had that day.

It's F16 ma'am. We get outrage if the sky is blue, gray, black, or white.

I'm outraged, that I don't have enough outrage, to be outraged, about what those on this thread are outraged about.
Can't decide if I want to be cute & cuddly, or go blow some sh*t up.
Decisions decisions.

Filing online is easy. Now, a person posting on this thread who claims he clears six figures a month and doesn't have a tax attorney?

That seems...likely.
