Places such as the UK have banned all sorts of additives, including food dyes and their food mostly sucks. Lacks flavor, lacks texture. Their lack of cooking techniques (boil most things) does not help. Even their fast food is mostly reheated from frozen. Freezing is how they stabilize food storage instead of preservatives.
I haven't done much traveling to Europe, but visited Italy a couple years ago, and the food there was pretty good.
I felt much less ****ty after eating there than I do here.
Italian and Greek food use more spices and more varied cooking techniques and is much better than UK food.
Salt and pepper is spicy to them. Nor do they like sugar very much, irrespective of source, refined or raw. Putting a can of Heinz beans on top of toast is about as adventurous food wise that they get. Very few friend foods if any. Meat proteins are very limited to chicken, beef, pork, occasionally lamb or mutton. The only seafood they get is cod or haddock in fish and chips. (One of the few things fried.)
They also have an obsession with diabetes from eating anything sweet or clogged arteries from meat and fried foods. Nor do they eat a lot fruits nor vegetables other than plain baked potatoes with maybe some margarine on them but never loaded with bacon, cheese or sour cream.
To say Brits have a very limited palate is an understatement.
