Utterly devoid of logic. No one forced them into an awkward position. They chose to be there after supposedly earning their way into the team.

If they don't like it, then take a paycheck from China like our Chinese American traitor athlete did. And don't come back here when it's over.

How difficult is it for them to respond with something like "I'm here to talk about the Olympics and my sport. Next!"

Also, he had the same tooth knocked out a couple years ago! They'll probably give him a flipper he can take out for games til he can get them fixed during the off-season. There are hardly any breaks coming up til playoffs.

The post game interview where one of the players was thanking the troops for giving them the opportunity to play for and represent such a great nation was the ultimate beat down. And then the team sang Toby Keith's song it's the American way in the locker room in the post game celebration.

My take on this has always been for the athlete to keep their traps shut about political issues while representing the country. Yeah they have freedom of speech but to use the Olympics as a platform to go off on why you are oppressed as an LGBT or taking a knee or going off on a tirade is so tone deaf when you are competing with athletes of truly hostile governments where such speech could get you jailed or killed. Have some awareness and common sense about how truly good you have it here. Plus some of the comments are 100% false. How is Amber Glenn or the gay community being oppressed here?

The leftist media is all too eager to bait these athletes into making comments badmouthing the USA as well. The country wants to support you but athletes like Rapinoe or Amber Glenn making political statements just turned half the country off and in some cases rooting for you to fail. Its also almost exclusively leftists doing this it seems.

Ice hockey is a great sport, very similar in play, strategy and concepts to soccer. It's odd that Houston does not have a minor league team for such a large metro area. Or heck even an NHL team.

Living in Dallas I am a Stars fan though not hard core. I prefer the Olympics style of hockey over the NHL, Olympics uses a larger ice rink (wider) and emphasizes skill, speed and passing, still physical but fighting is not allowed, drawing severe penalties. NHL hockey is stupid to allow fighting. What other sport, and there are plenty of collision full contact sports, allows players to get in a fight and the penalty is just to take a 2-5 minute break?!?!

The NHL is great and the Stanley Cup playoffs are incredible with 4 rounds of 7 game series, but they need to completely eliminate fighting.

I said this on the GB thread, Eileen Gu accepting $20MM from the CCP to represent China might be the most ironically capitalistic thing I have ever seen.

Houston's lack of NHL representation is a matter of very bad timing (in the case of the WHA/NHL merger) and the selfishness of former Rockets owner Les Alexander (in the case of expansion).

Even still, the AHL Aeros would likely still be here today if it weren't for the Toyota Center being built and the Rockets controlling the facility, which wasn't the case at the Compaq Center. That made it impossible for the team to be profitable or even break even in Houston.

You know there's a racial undertone to this. NBA = majority black = nope can't fight because we can't have that black thuggery on our TV.

NHL = majority white, so it's all in good fun.

As usual, the real racists are the liberals in media who make the rules.

I say bring some racial equality in this thing and let NBA players knock each other's teeth out.

The NHL guys drop gloves and throw haymakers, while the vast majority of NBA guys slap fight and dance while waiting for a teammate to hold them back before they get mouthy. Basketball players want to pose and mean mug- they want no part of an NHL fight.

There's also a big difference to allowing fighting in hockey and basketball.
*In hockey, guys are on skates/ice, which dramatically reduces their leverage in throwing punches.
*Additionally, they are weighed down by all sorts of gear which makes it harder to do damage.
*Further, they are contained in a rink, away from fans, with much less risk of fans get involved.

In basketball- they have regular footing to throw punches, zero gear in the way, and fans can more easily be involved in a fight without the barriers in between the court & fans.

3 big reasons why the sport is treated differently. It has nothing to do with racism. More so the culture of each sports and pragmatic factors listed above.

Another sport with a "culture" difference (like hockey) is baseball. When a chippy play happens, they may throw at the next batter. That is the hockey equivalent of a fight.

Is he doing that while disrespecting the country or the rights it holds sacred? No? Then reasonable people can disagree.

He was honored to play for his country and vocally said so. That makes him good in my book. This isn't hard.

After Kermit Washington shattered Rudy's T's jaw, face and part of his cranium (he easily could have died) the NBA really clamped down on it. What sucks is Rudy was just trying to break up a fight.

Similar thing happened to the NFL when Chuck Bednarek took out Frank Gifford. NFL started working on ways to make the game less violent. Frank Gifford said later he hated that it happened to him because he thought it overshadowed the rest of his career. Never mind that Frank Gifford was kind of a narcissist and generally an awful person.

what a dumb statement.

The country exists to preserve individual rights and protect us from foreign countries.

All of you who believe the country should take money from citizens to provide for the needs of individuals, should be forced to fund what you want. Stop trying to pay for your ideas with other peoples money.

You can also voluntarily pool YOUR money into NGOs to accomplish what you want.
