Tics are not truly involuntary in the moment in the same way that, say, a tremor from Parkinson's disease is uncontrollable. One of the diagnostic features of tics is that they can be consciously suppressed, although doing so is unpleasant for the afflicted person and tends to result in a "breakthrough" increase in tics when the person allows the tic to occur.
So no, I don't buy that this guy had to shout out the n-word at the exact moment that two black guys were on stage presenting.
Although coprolalia is the first thing that the average person thinks about when hearing the word Tourette's, it is actually fairly uncommon. I've never heard of this person who shouted out the word, seen the documentary or anything like that. Like several of you (apparently), I would not entirely discount the possibility that this is an Eric Cartman moment.
