The Afghans and the Pakistanis have been increasingly fighting over the last few months. Reports are that they're now in a full-scare war with the Taliban launching an "offensive" into Pakistan. Will be interesting to see if they're able to use our equipment successfully against the US-equipped Pakistanis.

And to think the Pakistani ISS secretly propped up and sheltered Taliban leadership for a long stretch of the Global War on Terror.

I suppose they thought they could be a bulwark against worse options like ISIS.

Not unless it was recently. Pakistan and Russia have a defense coalition so most of their weapons are Russian. About two years into the Ukraine war, Russia did start buying some back, IIRC.

I hope they have a ball and beat the crap out of each other. If we can sell them weapons I'm fine with that too but I don't want a single American troop anywhere near that crap. If those guys are fighting they don't have time to cause trouble elsewhere and it may actually benefit us in Iran. Not much threat of a nuke either because nuking Afghanistan won't do much strategically but it would backfire huge on Pakistan.

This is a benefit of deglobalization, let these guys fight it out as it doesn't iimpact us. Both of those countries suck.

Pakistan encouraged the Tabliban as a bulwark to India, and to build their "strategic depth". (Link)

I am not surprised that the Afghanistan-Pakistan war escalated in recent days more than 4 months after the two countries agreed to ceasefire in October. I hope they destroy each other, and I don't want a single US military member near that war.
