Cops across the UK carry guns, just not all (or most) of them. They have what they call "firearm units" that get called in for dangerous situations (or situations that are expected to be dangerous or potentially violent).

It's not the same as calling in SWAT, which is relatively rare. Firearm units get called in all the time by other officers. A traffic stop? No. A traffic stop of a suspected stolen vehicle? Yes.
