Fascinating. The alleged phone number for the O Club on Diego Garcia can be found on Google Earth

Brits had a great casual bar iback in the day there.

The view from the o club is one of the absolute best on earth, only to be rivaled by the chiefs club.

Yeah, It's an awesome view, but you never got The Green Flash unless you went here...

I've always wanted to see that!

Just to clear up the party scene at Diego.

The O'Club is oceanside near the west entrance to the harbor. It was WW2 vintage up and until a typhoon or something destroyed it in the 1990s and it was rebuilt. For officers only. I recall the place ran out of Coca-Cola on one of my tours there so we started drinking Jack and Dr. Pepper. Dr. Jacks!

The Brit Club is where the marina is, midway between the O'Club and the airfield, south of the dorms. It's run by the British Marines. Probably the most lively place on the island.

The Ex-Pat Club has good pizza and that is all I recall. I was probably at the O'Club or Brit Club most often.

During Desert Shield/Storm, the Navy logistics ship moored in the harbor unleashed a bunch of Stroh's Beer with a date stamp of 1984 on the cans. We drank them anyway.

Bomber guy, deployed there for long TDYs in 1988, 1990-91, and 1998.

Curious about how these establishments are staffed since most of the "indigenous" [sic] civilians have been relocated. Are they run by contractors?

Yes, very similar to how the original contractors arrived and became indigenous peoples. Its a revolving door.

I recall no indigenous people. The workers were contractors for BJ Services (probably bought out by Halliburton by now) who were Filipino mostly.

Interesting. Perhaps if they expanded their service offerings it could lead to more indigenous folk.

Before the USAF and USN built the base there, Diego was a plantation in the ag business. I believe the farm workers were also imported, not indigenous.

Maybe the British confused indigenous with indigent and/or ignorant?
