So I don't follow the happenings there much and never really have.

The country appears to be nearing it's communist end. I know the good news for their future is having so many connected, successful Cuban-Americans living the good life who could somewhat move in and re-shape a new, free Cuba. With their natural resources, the tourist potential (such a short distance away) and likelihood of immediate investment dollars flowing in, one would think a turnaround could be pretty quick.

Is there an existing, organized opposition party either on the island or here stateside? Are there a bunch of murdering thugs in gov't who would have to be rounded up and dealt with? How involved or engrained are our adversaries in Cuban government, from around the globe?

What needs to happen?
I don't think you know me.

There is no opposition in country. They ruthlessly deal with all opposition, and the marxist indoctrination is generations deep, so the entire administrative state is a problem. Cuba has a lot of potential, but unlocking that may not be as easy as it should be.

This is correct. There is no opposition inside Cuba. Anyone who has tried to mount opposition has either been imprisoned, died, or disappeared with no explanation. In theory, Cuba's proximity to the U.S. should make the transition easier, but in reality it will still be very, very complicated. The infrastructure (electricity, water, sewer, medical care, transportation, etc.) will likely need to be rebuilt from scratch. Based on what I saw in December 2023, I'm not sure there is a lot that can be salvaged.

There is a really good thread discussing Cuba's issues here.
