The battlefield is changing rapidly with missiles and drones of increasing distance and capabilities and increasing quantities ramping up rapidly. Systems such as the Golden dome seem to make much more sense now. Even if they're not perfect, they don't even have to work as long as the enemy thinks they might work.

The beginnings this shield seem like an excellent idea to me and a good source of our military expenditures. It will likely also force those going against us to build similar systems which they can't afford.

These could also possibly be staged in the mainland and deployed into action zones as required. Having too many of these systems available seems to have very limited. Downside.
