House voting tomorrow afternoon on a war power vote to restrict this conflict.

Ro khanna and massie are leading the way. Only requires a simple majority from each chamber to pass.

I think it will indeed pass out of congress, trump will then veto, and it will die

So am I wrong that they are ignoring a law already on the books that gives Trump the authority to do this via the 1973 Act? What am I missing other than their TDS?

The people against this military action are as foolish as those against helping Ukraine. Even dumber if they're pro-Ukraine war and anti-Iran war.

lol

Don't try to legimatize the uke-Russia theft & death joint venture by pairing it with what's going on in Iran

These are very different situations

I'm not. I'm legitimizing the strategic interest in both. Also, if one finds oneself pro-Ukraine and anti-intervention in Iran, it signals ignorance of the fact that thousands of Iranian-designed drones are hitting Ukrainian cities.

People are making democracy seem like a dumber and dumber idea every day.

Of course they are.

Their Epstein attack failed so now another way to attack Trump.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Where was Congress back then?
Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

The best move for Trump would be to use this as an off ramp to war. If Iran falls apart, Trump can blame congress. If Iran rebuilds better, Trump can take credit.

Similar to the SCOTUS bail out on tariffs.

Nah. The best thing would be to not stop until were finished.

Let congress do whatever, veto it. Congress certainly wont have the 2/3s to override the veto.

This will get out of the house, I think. The senate is a maybe. Fetterman will not vote for it, Paul will. Then you got murkowski and Collins that will probably vote for it

Unless Paul can find 2 more Republicans to vote with him, I dont think this can actually get to trump

When did he take out the leader of a country?

I'm ultimately for the actions taken so far, but they are constitutionally extremely questionable at best and absolutely unconstitutional at worst. I have no problem with our branches of government exercising their checks on the balance of power. Let everyone debate it. Nothing will change what happened anyway.

I'm more concerned at how many now are openly rooting for pure executive authority after incessantly screaming about it during the prior administration.

What does "finished" mean? If that means Trump will find an off ramp before the end of summer, and blame any fallout on Ben Net, I agree.

Reasonable take. Trump is following the same pattern as most presidents post ww2.

Its debatable whether the war powers act is constitutional on its own. But there was a definite shift post ww2 on how the usa engaged in conflict, who started our involvement in them and so forth. This war power vote isnt one to remove the war powers act, or significantly change the power structure as set out, its specifically to address this singular conflict. It reeks of orange man bad stink.

I cant stand the way congress operates. Its absolute **** and maybe the worst thing about our govt in the modern world.

Not gonna happen. Trump will find an off ramp before the end of summer, and blame any fallout on Ben Net. Bookmark this post.

I guess it depends on what "finished" means. I dont think most here want any long, drawn out Iraq 2/Afghanistan sort of conflict here. Trump's saying 5 or 6 weeks. Lets see

Yeah my bigger gripe is with Congress. They've ceded their power over the years in return for personal job security and getting rich off the government teat.

Which is now why almost nothing of significance happens there, presidents feel the ability to rule absolutely, and the USSC is the only body that now has effects on the legislative, but only after years of litigation and in very specific areas. It's so disgusting and pathetic.

"Finished" should mean, no more funding/supplying Israel actions against Iran. I agree, it needs to be defined.

Israel has been at Iran for over 30 years. They're not gonna stop after a few months. Which means Trump will eventually have to throw Ben Net under the bus, like Zelensky. All those on F16 will fall in line, and basically start arguing the same thing Tucker is arguing today.
Who?mikejones!
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That presupposes a false assumption. We've also been at Iran for quite a while, separate and apart from Israel.

The fact that theres an overlap on a ven diagram doesnt mean what you think it does

This, I am sort of jealous when some Western Nations announce "dissolve parliament and snap elections by the people"... definitely could never happen with our entrenched uni-party swamp monsters

It's all theater. Big money in wars. Every last one of them on The Hill doesnt care what we do as long as they get paid, and at least act like they're standing up for what their constituents want.
