I like a good joke but it's really annoying when on April 1 you are trying to check in on the news and you can't actually trust a lot of what is being reported. April Fools is funny among friends I suppose (though I think it's still dumb) but when you look up and see what should be credible companies and other outlets putting stuff out there it only makes me think less of them for wasting my time, especially when the fake stories are plausible.

When it comes to mainstream media news, every day is April 1.

Except none of it is clever or the least bit funny...

Anthropic is the developer of one of the best, if not the best coding AI model out there.

On April 1, Anthropic rolled out (or activated) the /buddy command (a Tamagotchi-style virtual pet/companion) in Claude Code, letting users hatch these little pets which was planned as a fun addition for April Fool's Day.

The joke was on them because the new release accidentally included a source map file not meant for public release. The file gave full access to about 2000 internal files, exposing their architecture, CLI, agent logic, internal prompts, spinner messages, how it handles certain behaviors, and many upcoming features.

This isn't their model, but their code is out there and rapidly being re-architected by people using other AI models to re-create it with all its features to avoid any copyright issues.
