When Peter Jennings came on to claim that "America had a tantrum" in describing the 1994 mid-term elections that gave the Republicans control of Congress for the first time in decades, I checked out on anything he said thereafter. Never could stand Dan Rather, so by the time of his reporting during the John Kerry / shrub election, I was not surprised at what he did to try to sway that election.

I was always more about the local broadcasters - Dave Ward, Shara Fryar, Bob Allen, and a few others who's names I can't currently recall. (Houston broadcasters)

Grew up in SA in the 60's and early 70's. We mainly watched KENS because of Dan Cook. But sometimes we would watch Channel 12 KSAT. Did anyone else refer to it as "Bloody 12" because they always seemed to cover nothing but car crashes and gunshot victims in graphic detail?

I go back to Henry Guerra when KSAT was KONO. 12 Star Final.

I grew up watching ABC national followed by ABC-13 Houston because that's what my parents preferred. Peter Jennings, while perhaps not quite middle of the road, was always professional and more of the old-school journalist/anchor.

We couldn't stand Dan Rather. He always came off as a fake preacher, or the prosecutor from My Cousin Vinny.

Peter Jennings died 20 years ago so he missed a lot of the woke, outrageous, lying, insane leftist bull**** to the extreme it is today, but I think he would have gone down the same path sadly.

This made me think of the my nominee, Paul Harvey

Chris was a 1L when I was a 3L at St. Mary's. I remember he parked next to me one day and we walked to the law school sort of next to each other. It was hard not to be a fanboy given that I grew up watching him on the news, and he was still the anchor at that time. He started at KENS the year I was born and retired in 2009. He passed the bar in 2007. Like me, Chris grew up in Castle Hills and went to Lee High School, just a lot earlier.

Also, his brother Andre was the libertarian candidate for president in 1992, and the VP candidate with Ron Paul in 1988.

Does Paul Harvey count as a news anchor? Because we listened to the Rest of the Story every morning in the 90s on the way to school.

The Rest of the Story came later in his career. He did a 15 minute radio news broadcast for years. Played on our local station at noon.

Jennings and Brokaw were pretty good in all seriousness. Bernard Shaw at CNN was actually pretty good too back in the day, and a bit off topic but the McLaughlin group show with John McLaughlin was great political entertainment.

Just in terms of delivery and appearance, Peter Jennings is who I think of when I think national news anchor. Cronkite would be second, followed by Ted Koppel third, and then there's everyone else trailing the pack.

If you start bringing in political opinion shows there are some other options.

TBH, I was too young to know what the show was called, but I can still hear him say "and now you know the rest of the story."

I can still hum the 12 Star Final intro theme music in my head. Always had the car crashes and stabbing/shootings first.

And Channel 4 WOAI send off with the 'It's 10:30pm, do you know where your children are?'

And the Aggies won!

And you can't ever forget this.

I liked Sylvan Rodriguez and Shern-Min Chow on KHOU too.

But channel 13 ABC had the best.

I remember all of them. I grew up and lived in Houston for 17 years after college. But I'm glad I don't live there anymore.

Even older, Edward R Murrow from London during WWII

And the king of them all, from Lakehurst, NJ, in 1932
