access to more information or more misinformation?
It's honestly both. With free speech on the internet, you are inherently going to get both. But it's honestly better than what the older generations got- which was a carefully curated media message to shape your beliefs.
disagree
att least for a small period of time, the news was presented as news.
"journalists" did not mix opinion or commentary into the news.
today, everything is an opinion piece.
Yeah that is unfortunately not true. Even when the news was presented as news, it was still carefully curated for the consumer to shape their beliefs. Both in HOW it was covered (framing), as well as WHAT was actually covered.
I see. You were born in the 50's?
Definitely not.
There were 3 networks.
Interesting that the networks wer not allowed to share content from other networks.
Now you can have Fox show an edited clip of CNN and make a claim regarding +/- of said clip.
And vice versa.
Those 3 networks worked to scoop the other two.
I'd say there's a lot more framing going on today.
I was not born in the 1950's no, but I am familiar with how media has operated in this country since that period of time. Yes, there was framing in the 1950's and yes there is no doubt more framing now. But that was not my original point that you responded to. What I said was today's younger generation has access to much better information because of free speech on the internet (and the internet in general). Which is better than what the older generations got, which was just networks and newspapers giving you a carefully curated message to shape your beliefs.
