Me and my buddies pay 72% of total Federal revenue. Top 25% dang near funding it all. You're welcome, libs.

Yet they want even more!

None of your problems are because someone else makes more money than you and envy is a serious character flaw. If you aren't happy with what you make solve that problem, don't wallow in misery and blame others for your failures.

We have the largest middle class by percentage in world history and live in one of the few places and times where hard work and talent can be combined to achieve whatever you want to achieve. Believing otherwise reveals a complete lack of understanding of that very back truth which requires a lack of understanding of history.

Envy is one of the 7 deadly sins.

Steve Jobs didn't force anyone to buy an iPhone. People gladly and willingly traded their money for it and it made their lives much better. Jobs got rich as a result. Only a liberal brain would believe that is wrong and that Jobs should be punished for it.

My buddies and I also donate (involuntarily) to the local, state and federal government. Next year I should open some sort of "learing" center to switch the scenario.

Inheritance has been taxed already. Hands off.

Labor income is overtaxed. The HENRY class funds this country.

Unrealized founder stock that escapes tax forever is a loophole, not a free market outcome. Close it.

None of the above fixes the deficit. Only spending does.

Charity belongs to neighbors, churches, and communities not the IRS.

Sorry. Quoted the wrong post

Anyone implying we need an even more "progressive" tax system because of income equality is just bafflingly off the mark. The federal govt shouldn't be using taxation as a social engineering hammer. It's abusive in the first place. We will never address the bloat within the govt spending when only the "haves" are taxed. It's just dumb

On one hand, we can't ignore the extreme levels of income inequality or the ever increasing percentage of poor in this country. It's simply a fact. If nothing else, it's a disease whose symptoms lead to crime and spreading blight within our cities.

On the other hand, a country can't tax its way to fairness either. We have to reward risk taking, innovation, and brilliance. Ideas like reparations and affirmative action are like a poorly adhering bandaid on cancer.

Education & motivation. That's the simple answer. Parents who motivate their kids and an education system that lets everyone thrive. Unfortunately figuring out how to make that work seems to be more difficult than the most esoteric quantum theories.

I agree but that's not how many young people see it, unfortunately.

I bet most everyone here as a buddy in that tax bracket.

Top 10% if over about $275k/yr/household. You know, the "uber wealthy"

I still think the best way to get a hold of federal deficit spending is to eliminate withholdings, pay people their check in full and let them pay the tax in full on tax day. Then have tax day the week before national election. We'd fix a lot of problems with a single election.

The low income strata in this country has pretty much been the same for decades and decades. It will always exist. Meanwhile, everyone else gets richer. More middle class have graduated to upper middle class in recent years...which is a good thing. Did you see that article posted on here recently?

Would you rather the trend be the other direction where most get poorer? We are the richest country on the planet with the most efficient and transparent markets that ever existed. At some point, for many people, math simply takes over and your wealth increases.

We are one of, if not the, most progressively income taxed country on the planet which has nothing to do with income inequality. It's more accurate to say we are getting more progressive because our richest people are getting richer and the rest of the county sees an opportunity for them to take more of the burden and leech more.

If I recall right, the 2-10% bears the most disproportionate burden, the HENRY class I mentioned before. High earnings, not rich yet. W-2 and K-1 income, full ordinary rates, no realization timing.

Above the 2%, you get into the group that can borrow against unrealized gains to fund their lifestyle. Those willing to pay SOFR + 2 instead of the income tax bill that would come from generating equivalent cash income. Buy, borrow, die.

That same group is the primary beneficiary of the Cantillon effect: debt-funded government spending pushes new dollars through the financial system first, which inflates their asset base before the inflation reaches the real economy. They get to spend the new money at old prices.I realize Cantillon is about the Fed/Treasury/Banking System but the top 2% are absolutely in closer proximity to those parties as the primary asset holders than the bottom 98% are.

The other end of the spectrum gets the opposite end of that trade. By the time wages catch up, the goods cost more than they would have. The HENRYs in the middle pay the tax bill on the front end and watch the asset class pull away on the back end.

To your first point, a government that funds everything from soup to nuts, creates people that will find ways to continue to utilize what the government is willing to give. I am all for helping those that are truly in need, what I don't want to continue to do is funding those that are capable of doing so much more and choose not to.

Teach your kids: money comes from jobs. Not the government. The big problem is how do you teach everyone else's kids that.

Would give everyone a whole new perspective of the government
