I had no idea. He spoke at a lecture on the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

And we get Mike Pence.

There is no justice in this world, yet there is a Justice in Austin.

I slept at Cibolo Creek Ranch in 2005, and almost 11 years to the day later Antonin Scalia died there. It really makes you think.

That ain't right. I hope he's in town to announce he's retiring. We need him and Alito to retire while Trump's in charge.

If he retires, it would be after the end of the current term.

If he retired now, his vote on any case that has been argued but not decided would be void.

They need that message much more!

That speech was a clear and eloquent rendering of the conflict between the Constitution and Progressivism, and why the two cannot coexist. A Tour de Force in First Principles and why we must stand against the progressives.

Love Justice Thomas, has long been the favorite member of my profession. Justice Thomas is the true standard bearer of (everything good) about MLK's message and legacy, not those race-baiting charlatans who twisted it to suit their grift. He is a national treasure who, I fear, is not replaceable no matter when he steps aside.

Very well stated! All true!

The problem with Thomas (or Alito as rumored) stepping down after this term is that Trump is probably at his weakest he's ever been right now. Any replacement nominee will be of the ACB/Roberts/Kavanaugh variety and not as conservative as Thomas or Alito.

The time to step down would have been Spring 2025. Trump could have gotten anyone he wanted confirmed back then.

So now, we hope for the best that Senate makes red gains in November.

Isn't progressivism the reason he could marry his wife?

He was able to marry his wife because of the idea that "all men are created equal", as codified in the Constitution. That same Constitution that Progressives think is outmoded, outdated, and should be done away with.

The Progressives embraced eugenics, and would never allow such mingling of inferior stock with theirs. Progressives were the Democrats at the time, and as such supported the KKK.

So no, he wasn't able to marry his wife because of Progressives.

Took an amendment to clear that up.

Eventually a black man would have been allowed to marry a white woman in all 50 states

That being said it was a progressive idea and not everybody thought it was a good idea

Progressivism seeks to EXPAND government power over people to "cure" "injustice".

Loving v Virginia did the opposite. It lessened government power.

Something being a "progressive" thought does not mean it aligns with progressivism.

Everyone knows Trump appointed them.

The point is that Alito or Thomas retiring now all but guarantees someone LESS conservative take their place.

Barrett and Kavanaugh were MORE conservative than Ginsburg and Kennedy.

So SCOTUS Justice Thomas is talking about the threat to America from the left...

meanwhile he refuses to retire so we can protect SCOTUS from the left.

make it make sense!!

That's farcical.

we have 53 GOP Senators and Fetterman

there are literally hundreds of Judges and Justices across the country to choose from

you telling me Ted Cruz or Ron Desantis are less conservative than Alito?!?

there will never be another opportunity in their lifetime for a Republican POTUS to appoint a conservative

OK but Trump nominated ACB and Kavanaugh when he was strongest (first term, massive popularity, GOP Senate). And he gave us ACB and Kavanaugh

If you would like to read the absolute DUMBEST take on Thomas...

Read this article...

Some excerpts...

Quote:

"Progressivism seeks to replace the basic premises of the Declaration of Independence and hence our form of government," he said, because "it holds that our rights and our dignities come not from God but from government."

It's not a new idea, especially in Republican circles. In 2012, for instance, vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan thundered, in response to Barack Obama's supposedly tyrannical rule, that "even Presidents need reminding that our rights come from nature and God, and not from government!"

Ummm...DUH it's not a new idea. It was the idea that the ****ing founding fathers had. You know...back in the 1770s...

Or how about THIS gem:

Quote:

The idea that rights come from God, not government, couldn't be more wrong. And as someone who routinely wields the power of government to deprive Americans of their rights, Thomas ought to know.

Coupled with this wonderful piece of dumbass:

Quote:

As proof, Thomas offered his own history growing up in the Jim Crow South.

Quote:

So who was it who delivered the nation from the cruelty and injustice of Jim Crow? It was not a divine light of heaven sweeping across the land. It was government or more specifically, democratic citizens who worked tirelessly to change the laws, and eventually forced those with power in the courts, legislatures and the executive branch to join their cause.

Apparently, he doesn't comprehend that the rights of blacks during Jim Crow were being TAKEN AWAY BY THE GOVERNMENT, even though they still had those rights. It was GOVERNMENT that was the problem during Jim Crow.

It just gets dumber after that.
