AI can't do a Google search or fact check a short essay without making **** up. Maybe in the future but nowhere near reliable enough now.

Hallucinations are "real" and do put out erroneous information. There is NO WAY it should be used for flight-critical information at this time.

Yeah, AirGPT hallucinating a non-existing runway, incorrect flight ceiling, or a mountain in the wrong place could have some terrible consequences.

This is the problem.

Gamers like to ride the edge to demonstrate 1337ness. I say that as an old gamer.

Is the edge what we want?

Being jazzed about being in front of a screen all day with multiple moving parts I'd guess.

I fly a 737 on flight sims pretty regularly. There is a network you can log into to "sim" ATC called Vatsim with real people sitting in place for ATC controllers. It's a pretty sizeable group that tries to get as close to the real thing as possible - both IFR and VFR flights. There are a ton of young men and women who are very good at it and I have no doubt they would be very good controllers outside of the sim. Europe seems to have quite a bit more than the US. It's a really neat experience to fly like that with as close as you can get to being a real 737 pilot.
