Lots of chatter out there about at least 1 retirement happening once this session is complete.

Some say alito, some say Thomas, some say its going to be roberts. It does appear at least one of them will retire soon

How would we feel about DeSantis?

I would love to exchange DeSantis for roberts for sure

Neither Alito nor Thomas have said they will retire this year. In fact Alito and Thomas are hiring clerks for next term, from what I have seen.

Would love to see Roberts retire, but I think he has too much hatred of Trump to step down until at least the next Pres election unless there is something that forces him to retire, such as a scandal.

Altio is rumored because of alleged health issues
Thomas i think is wish casting

The Roberts one is interesting. Mollie Hemingway is the one I first saw reporting the possibility

Thomas won't retire. He wants the record for longest serving Justice if for no other reason than the way he was treated during his confirmation.

Would much rather DeSantis on SC than in the Executive.

Thomas needs to retire before he dies on the bench and a liberal takes his seat.
Can't decide if I want to be cute & cuddly, or go blow some sh*t up.

Yeah, he's been a pretty terrible executive in Florida.

Not me. I would rather have him as President and let him appoint some truly conservative Justices. DeSantis is a policy genius and a Democrat slayer.

Not my original post but my viewpoint is that He's been an awesome executive. It's just that the executive is temporary and the SC is for life.

Didn't say that. He's done good things for Florida. He just won't be a winner at the national level. Can maximize his ability in the SC.

I would love DeSantis as POTUS but I can't see it working out.

Where I really want him is in the US Senate. That's where we need him the most. He'd be a lion in the Senate.

Ted Cruz to the Supreme Court.

BTW, I intend to be HAPPILY retired LONG before I'm that age.

I'm the 4th oldest guy at my organization and I turn 58 this year. No ****ing way to I want to work another 13 years, let alone 20 years...

I might do a little consulting here and there if I can do it remotely, though.

Id buy the argument that Thomas wants to stay one for 1 day longer than Joe bidens lifetime, so that Biden never gets to not see him as a scotus member before id buy Thomas sticking around to get some longevity record

None of this matters once the Dems take control.

As you see with Virginia today, they intend to take total control and they don't give a **** about laws or ethics.

I'd be happy for him to be on the SC but he would also be the guy most likely to actually clean up DC. He's the most astute guy in the GOP at seeing how to reform governmental agencies and not step on his crank in the process. His level of organization, understanding of law, and ability to look multiple steps ahead is mind boggling. The number of Democrats he has destroyed in Florida is staggering and he even crushed Disney into submission. Florida now is about to eliminate property taxes for residents and they are running a monster surplus and are actually going to pay off their debt entirely in the next few years, all while becoming the #1 state for education and having the model for how to deal with storms. The list of accomplishments is staggering. He would be a great AG or Sec of War or just about any job, remember he also was very successful in Congress and knows how DC works from the inside as well.

His only real mistake was taking on Trump and the fact Susie Wiles hates him because he fired her for leaking to the press. No one could have beaten Trump in '24, especially once "the photo" was taken after his arrest. I actually think his best plan would be to not run in '28 either way though and let Trump fade off. It's always hard to see what the post Trump world will be but it is coming and coming faster than people realize and DeSantis is still in his mid '40s.

I can certainly understand why Roberts would be worn out by having to deal with Sotomayor and now KBJ. Just mind numbingly stupid, both of them.

I love Clarence Thomas as much as anyone. His confirmation hearings were the most shallow, offensive and disgusting overreaches of "advise and consent" of my lifetime.

That said, he needs to step down this summer and let Trump pick his successor so they can both give one giant, richly-deserved middle finger to as many progressives as possible.

The executive is getting more and more powerful, while the legislative is getting weak. The SC will be the last line of defense. Need strong conservatives with a track record on the SC over a 4 year post. I still don't think he can win at the national level, but that's just me. Real question is would the Heritage Foundation support Ron for SC. They pull a lot of the strings.

Offhand:

  • Changed his vote to obamacare is a tax
  • Covered up for major corruption at the FISA Court
  • Several leaks have occurred in the last several years and no accountability
All of these things benefitted the dems and was certainly not ethical behavior. He's as much a dem as a Republican
