Maybe the loopholes and scams around H1B need to be looked into which are not counted to a cap.
Look at the response to the main post.

Is this accurate?

There might be some overlap if renewals are included, but it is still aggravating for qualified, displaced US citizens that "do not exist" and the major culture shift of certain local communities.

The former 10x SWEs are now 100x with AI and there is less of a need for coding monkeys. Flip side is that people who know how to creatively prompt will accelerate. Skills are changing, which is uncomfortable, but the natural way or things.

I think this is a fair assessment of where we're going. I'm using AI increasingly to flesh out my own thoughts as it relates to my businesses and it's very much speeding up my thought processes and conclusions in any number of areas. Then once it's helped me get my hands around that it's significantly faster and producing SOP/policy docs than I am. What might take me 2 days to produce as a document ends up taking 2-3 hours with a few printouts and markups.

Extrapolating that to bigger orgs than mine the efficiencies realized are significant and across an org it will add up to jobs. But I've yet to see anything telling me it's going to eliminate entire functions. It's not great at making decisions. It is good at telling you what's good and bad about the decisions you're contemplating.

I am enhancing a product to use AI to do things better for our customers.

Ironically I am using AI to vet my ideas, teach me about product nuances and give me pros and cons. Pretty cool.

People who are downplaying AI are really mistaken. my oldest child is 14. I don't know what guidance to give them on profession. There are going to be significant cuts in the job market because of AI.

There are many jobs around AI... if he likes Tech, AI is creating a whole new industry of careers.

I sat on a call today discussing Auth around AI. Hiw do these agents authenticate, how do APIs interact.

How does AI network? Guardrails... RedTeaming.

AI is currently a productivity tool. Cuts in employment center around a shift in companies moving expenses from Operational/Jobs to Capital/GPUs.

If you are in a Texas ISD, it is the equivalent of passing a Bond to buy stuff. ISDs shifted Operational costs to Bond funded Cap expenses. Do I pay $60k for a guy to fix the fence, or do I pass a Bond and spend $5M to buy a new fence that comes with a warranty that I don't have to pay out of the Ops budget.

I took typing in high school, and though typewriters went away, those skills translated to computer keyboards.

Many skills today will translate.

If you know Tech Security, AI will require similar parallel skills.

My current job didn't exist in the '80s when I graduated HS. Nobody could have seen it.

Last point... I grew up with a CB in the '70s. Group chat (IRC), IM, Snapchat, etc... all evolutions. A cell phone to me was never "cool" as an adult because I was chatting with my dad on his way home from work on our home base station/CB when I was 10.

Meta's gone from most coveted company to worst that people want to avoid.
Well done Zuck (another idiot CEO who ruined a great thing)

No company is dominant forever. This is either a mistake or it is not.

History has shown that when products are made to employ people rather than the other way around all you get is crappy and expensive products.
