I don't care what side of the isle you're on. Watching video of WHCD tonight is pretty awesome. You see these secret service guys jumping in and willing to take a bullet for the people they're protecting. Obviously POTUS is #1 priority in this situation but watch how agents jumped in to protect their assignment. Thumbs up for those dudes. Badasses.

Which island are we on?
Gilligan's?

I will allow this administration's SS on my island. The previous administration's DEI SS can pound sand...

It's wild how he got this close in the first place

Yeah, I give the secret service s thumbs down here. No one should have that gotten than close. They're getting away with some poor prep.

Bongino talked last night about how SS protection works. The problem this time around was the protected area was "too compressed". The protected area should have been further out. But that is the problem with having this event in a hotel. Hotel guests have to be able to get to the elevator and get to their room.

This is an easy fix, especially at this hotel. Elevators could have been set to not go to the terrace or concourse levels and SS could have very tightly controlled the two stairwells. All hotel guests must enter through the lobby level. There could be one or two elevator cars dedicated to moving disabled people from the terrace level downstair to the concourse controlled by SS agents. Media reporting has confirmed what I posted on the other thread about where and how the shooter accessed the area, and something as simple as controlling elevator access to the terrace level more tightly would have prevented this from happening.

Why don't they shoot the shooter?

The protective detail has OnE mission: get the protectee out of harms way ASAP by any means. They don't fight the attacker. They protect their assignment and execute the evacuation plan. They'd only shoot of there was no other way out.

Why? Dan Bongino has explained this. They don't know if there is more than one attacker or other threat. There is always also a second detail of agents that are basically like SWAT whose job is to bust in and engage, in addition to the overwatch and other agents who aren't assigned to a protectee.

They really don't have people whose only job is to engage the perp? Zero chance this is correct

Yes they do. Guys in paramilitary gear who ran out and aiming into the audience looking for possible perps are the CAT team. Counter Assault Team.

This is correct. My brother was CAT for 8 years. They are offering him big dollars to come back.

Before we start glazing the Secret Service too much.

I can't get over how many Secret Service guys there were standing around, "smoking and joking" (as we used to say in the 90s) and our perpetrator runs right through the gap in their Defense.

Rewatch that video and explain to me how the perp didn't even need a blocking back or an offensive lineman.

He straight up ran right through the Secret Service Defensive Line - and the Secret Service had guns.

Maybe we need to start hiring guys who are more like the Wrecking Crew for these missions.

Or just like every nightclub you've ever been to, block access to the entrance and have a big mountain of a man blocking the entrance until you show ID and go through a metal detector, etc.

At least they need some kind of setup where people cannot sprint through.

Like a turn style or agents arranged in a way, and paying attention, such that an offender is easy to stop.

Hard to say if it is ineptitude or indifference but something seems off...

George W almost got taken out by a grenade in Tbilisi in 2005 had it not been wrapped in a handkerchief that prevented the pin from firing...that's the probably the most significant close call since Reagan (and before Trump).

Someone flew plane into the white house lawn and another guy got 30 rounds off from the whitehouse sidewalk during Clinton...he wasn't in residence either time as far as I remember.

Obama had a guy fire a rifle at the White House when he was away.

Noone tried to kill Biden because they realize that's redundant.

Butler rally, ryan routh, whcd...it's all getting very close. There's an issue with the SS.

It could be that given the resources and legal limitations on their ability to make everyone else submit to extreme and extensive security practices, it is an impossible task to be infallible security.

I don't think anyone is asking for infallible. I do think it is reasonable to assume they can do better than what we've seen.

To be fair, they could be stopping attempts 100 times unseen for the 3 that we have seen. That's great and laudable.

And 3 seen proximate attempts is still unacceptable.

I am not ready to slam individuals at all, and do salute the individual bravery shown, and am not a security expert, nor do I cosplay as one online, but this is the 3rd incident in under 2 years of someone armed with ill intent getting shots off at DJT in public. There are many other world leaders even more hated than Trump by leftists (and others) who go decades without such incidents.

I'm sure his detail is on high alert from events like this and Butler, but if he starts going around with an obviously heavily armed, uniformed detail at all times the Hitler comments are going to get even more ridiculous.

I forgot about the attempt on President Ford.

Attempted assassination of Gerald Ford in San Francisco

In San Francisco on September 22, 1975, Sara Jane Moore attempted to assassinate the 38th President of the United States, Gerald Ford, after he had made an address to the World Affairs Council. Moore tried to shoot President Ford with a .38 Special revolver.

So actually there have been 4 attempts on President Trump's life since 2024. We are all forgetting this one because he wasn't home:

Quote:

Just two months ago, Austin Tucker Martin, 21, breached the secure perimeter at Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump's Palm Beach residence, armed with a gasoline container and a shotgun. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy killed him. Mr. Trump was not at the residence at the time.

I've heard for the last ten years about the evils of "the deep state" and how it's a cabal of democrats and democrat donors waging non-stop war against anything and everything Trump. Could it also be that "the deep state" could include a cabal of republicans and republican donors who would rather see the Trump presidency and influence on the republican party end sooner than later, and consequently the new younger administration start sooner than later?

It just seems that the secret service has been an absolutely embarrassing example of incompetence over the past three years when it comes to doing ostensibly the only job they have - protecting the President. Why? Are there calls being made somewhere in the real corridors of power the SS can't mitigate?
