The 5% wealth tax on billionaires is just a tad too far for Mr. Brin. Taxing billionaires is when you know you've really hit full communism and it's time to get out.

Everything else - high general taxes, massive government, crime, racism, violence, death, DEI, incompetence, mass delusion, homelessness, moral and social depravity, hate, rage - was OK.

California One-Time Wealth Tax initiative has already gathered more than enough signatures (over 1.51.6 million submitted, nearly double the ~875,000 required) to qualify.

is scheduled to be voted on by California voters on November 3, 2026, as part of the state's general election ballot.

Brin founded Google with the PageRank patent, of which the idea was lifted from another inventor that said that internet search that relied on a system of citations similar to peer-reviewed journals would achieve better search results.

He then went on a war against the patent system in the US when he decided that patents were standing between him and his ability to launch Android, which used the technology of many inventors packaged into a phone that had IP that he didn't want to pay for. He gave a ton of money to Obama and Congress to pass the America Invents Act, which resulted in very significantly weakening the patent system's ability to protect small business and independent entrepreneurs, and opened the door for Sand Hill Road companies to run rough-shod over the patent office using Chicago style politics, all while Michelle Wie, former Head of Patents at Google, allowed blatant corruption in the new patent review processes to run wild. By the time Brin, Google, Cisco, and Apple were done transforming the patent office, the PageRank patent would never have been enforceable under the new legal reality.

Brin can go F himself with a giant bag of rubber Richards. I despise him and his ilk as much as any other human beings on the planet. He started Google with the idea of "Don't be evil". He failed.

This is true.

But he was too stupid and arrogant to see that this was the inevitable convergence of the BS he was supporting.

The ignorance level required to think a "one time" tax of "billionaires" will 1) Actually work and 2) Stop at being "one time" or just "billionaires" is mind blowing. It's true Atlas Shrugged idiocy.

It's never about reality or rationality with Democrats. It's all about how it makes them feel.

The leadership on the left is exceptionally good at playing to the useful idiots emotions.

Absolutely. It's also virtually impossible to have a rational discussion with folks like that because their feelings matter more than facts. The only way they change typically is when they have something that hits them personally (that is what is happening to Brin) or they say something to their friends and suddenly get ostracized for a truth or "feeling" they hold. That's part of what made Charlie Kirk so amazing, he was able to break through that for a lot of people.

As to the OP, the best example I can think of is this is the part of the story where you go from deciding that taking more eggs isn't enough but now you want chicken for dinner. The problem is tomorrow you have nothing to eat.
