Takes part in robbery.

Takes credit for pulling the trigger in jail house interviews to gain clout.

Says he took credit to keep his cousin from getting the death penalty.

He get death penalty, says he was high on pcp and his cousin was trigger man.

DNA ties gun to cousin, left starts screaming to let death row inmate off the hook.

Texas says nah, he gets executed.

Politician says event tried under rule of parties, so Texas executes an innocent man.

Any accomplice of murder should receive the same penalty.

He wasn't "innocent" and I don't care that he's dead, even if he didn't pull the trigger.

Shouldn't have tried to make himself look like a super thug. ****ed around and last night he found out.

And yes, under law of parties, his execution was perfectly legal.

This thread is not going to go the way you want it to.

A person is fully culpable criminally if they willingly and with knowledge of the consequences (mens rea) participate as an actor in a crime in which murder occurs for which the penalty is death or life imprisonment if I remember the statute.

There's a lot wrong with the criminal prosecution and incarceration system. The death penalty affects less than .01% of overall system and should be treated accordingly

We got bigger problems that need fixing &
The dude was not " innocent "

But everyone who is sitting in prison is "innocent", according to everyone who is sitting in prison.

Oh, and...

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

Great, they should have locked him in a non-airconditioned cell in far west Texas and kept him away from everyone except his mother and his lawyer.

James Broadnax committed the murder period. End of discussion! I am glad he was executed for his involvement in the murder.

It seems like it mostly worked out, but we should probably also execute the cousin to be sure.

Half the democrat party should be in prison if someone enforced some of the damn laws.

I guess I don't get the point of the OP. Are you just telling us he was executed? That there are some who argue he is innocent? Not culpable?

If you have an issue with his sentence, your ire needs to be directed to the Texas legislature and the Law of Parties.

Otherwise.... According to the Law of Parties, whether he pulled the trigger or not, he is responsible for the murders because he was involved in the crime that precipitated their murders.

Now, if his argument is that he was in no way involved in the crime at all, then I could see arguing innocence. But that's not his argument, correct?

Love when liberals and cosplay libertarians start talking about "slippery slopes" after these types of events. Nope, not slippery for me or anyone I know.

Tison v. Arizona - provided you're a major participant in the underlying felony and acted with reckless disregard, you can get the death penalty for felony murder. So it goes.

Why do we give a **** about this random tweet? Like I tell those with TDS, you don't have to respond to everything that someone says.

I'm not a huge fan of the death penalty. That said, this is the law. You made yourself a party to the event.

CRIMINALS don't do this, regardless of family relationships. A parent for a child, maybe, and even that's questionable*. But otherwise, no.

*The son of a friend from HS was murdered. I can't recall the specifics but he, my friend's son, was targeted by the killer. Anyway, he was caught, pled out, and is incarcerated somewhere. At some point, my friend came into contact with the killer's father -- probably at the plea hearing or one of the hearings. My friend told me the father is a bigger POS than the kid that killed his son!

dude reminds of the guy in the nights watch in GOT that was second fiddle to the head honcho before Jon snow got elected the new leader. Tried to act like a boss right up until the sword was hanging over his head and then he turned into the sniveling b he truly was.

That's some seriously bad math right there.

And he confessed to it multiple times.

If he didn't do it, but didn't mind taking the rap for it, he should have pled guilty in exchange for prison and not the death penalty. He made the choice to participate in a murder and to potentially receive a death sentence.

I'm confused ... how was he innocent?

He was absolutely eligible for the death penalty.
