Texas American Muslim University (TexAM)
TexAM University is the first university in the United States to offer STEM degree programs embedded with mandatory courses in Islamic Studies. The university provides specialized programs that integrate modern technology with Islamic principles, empowering students with skills in digital innovation while upholding Islamic values. Our graduates are prepared to excel in diverse fields such as Islamic finance, digital services, and religious education in today's technology-driven world.

Terrorist breeding ground.

And the cowboys here ask "so what? I don't see a problem".

No sir, don't put that on cowboys. The real cowboys are prepared to escort these folks to the ground and require a return trip to wherever tango foxtrot they came from.

You can be a non-catholic and go to Notre Dame. You don't have to be Baptist and can go to Baylor. An institution that discriminates based on religion should receive $0 federal or state dollars. If they are completely privately funded then I guess they can have at it.

Anyone else wonder why all of these Islamic only things are cropping up in Texas? There was the development in north TX where only Muslims could buy land and now this. Or is this happening everywhere and I only pay attention to what happens in Texas?

Because there are a lot of Muslims in Texas now. The business friendly government isn't just attractive to Fortune 500 companies. Have you seen an independent convenience store that isn't owned and operated by someone from a Muslim country or India? Looked at who owned the hotel you were staying in? Once they acquire businesses they bring in Muslim family, friends, and associates to help run them and eventually those people stay and start their own businesses.

Fun fact: Between 2004 and 2009, Church's Chicken was owned by Arcapita Group in Bahrain. Being good Muslims, they removed all pork products from the menu. However, they did not take the next step of renaming the chain to Mosque's Chicken.

We let Seattle steal the 12th Man.

Miss State has half-heartedly tried to steal our Ball 5 chant.

Let's not let the muslims steal our namesake.

We should sue the shwarma out of them.

Kinda funny seeing people say "who cares" - I guess they have no idea what trademark infringement is and why it has to be defended against.

I guess these are the same people who wonder why the University of Wisconsin bothered to send The Woodlands High School ceases and desist letters over their logo.

or why A&M sent the Seahawks the same over The 12th Man.

The Seahawks had a pretty good case for a junior use of the 12th Man trademark based on the filings that we made on the mark, when we made them, what those filings covered, the years that Seahawks were using the term 12th Man, and the possibility that the 12th Man trademark could have been invalidated in any lawsuit where we tried to enforce the mark against Seattle.

It's complicated, but I detailed the issues of the case back when it was happening, feel free to look it up. The president of TAMU chimed in on TexAgs with a position that generally agreed with me, for what its worth.

So, trotting out the Seattle Seahawks thing is weak sauce, IMO.

Seattle has a license agreement with TAMU for the use of the 12th Man mark.

I'd expect that TAMU will go after this as it would certainly lead to word mark confusion. I mean, just say it out loud.

It's on the chopping block and winding down operations now. Closes completely in 2028.

Is it shutting down completely, or just removing the A&M branding? I have no issues with Qatar having an engineering university, just don't prostitute the A&M name with it.

It's being replaced by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), which is actually already operating.

Yes - The millenium was the kickoff for their invasions of Christian/secular countries to take over the world. Not through guns, hijackings, bombs, etc., but through the birth rate following the exodus from their home country. If Christians don't start having more babies, in 100 years or so, the muslims will be the majority in Europe and maybe even America. And once they're in the majority, sharia law becomes the law of the land...

God bless the Mormons for something, anyways.......

Mandatory Islamic studies. If they are getting tax dollars, that is a big nope.

How can they even claim to be a "land-grant institution"?

They can't.

This just adds to the trademark infringement case. They didn't even bother to look up what land-grant university means.

Most don't have a clue about trademarks, and most are the same that thought we were crybabies when we sent the Seahawks a cease & desist letter on their use of "12th Man" until we inked a deal with them.

You have to defend your trademark, failure to do so renders the trademark invalid. Most companies are pretty militant about it, rightfully so.

It's embarrassing that we had to revert to a license agreement on something that was clearly ours for many, many years before the Seattle Seahawks were even an idea. Maybe, we'll learn this time.

Good point - and we almost messed that up as we let them go too long. Trademark violations must be pursued vigorously and immediately.

I bet the Higher Ed Coordinating Board has not approved this.

Note they do not have a .edu URL. I also suspect they are not SACS-COC certified.

Finally note this on their page:

Quote:

Texas American Institute for Technology at Dallas is a non-profit organization, registered with the Secretary of State of Texas, USA. It operates under the DBA (Doing Business As) name Texas American Muslim University at Dallas.

This is a non-profit not a university. I would hope A&M jumps on the branding aspect of this non-profit with cease and desist letters.

I think they will likely get into some trouble calling themselves a university as well:

https://law.justia.com/codes/texas/education-code/title-3/subtitle-b/chapter-61/subchapter-g/section-61-313/

Quote:

Sec. 61.313. USE OF PROTECTED TERM IN NAME OF INSTITUTION; OFFENSES. (a) Unless the institution has been issued a certificate of authority under this subchapter, a person may not:
(1) use the term "college," "university," "seminary," "school of medicine," "medical school," "health science center," "school of law," "law school," or "law center" in the official name or title of a nonexempt private postsecondary educational institution; or
(2) describe an institution using a term listed in Subdivision (1) or a term having a similar meaning.

I highly doubt they got permission from the state to operate as a "university" with only offering 4 undergrad degrees and two masters and having no accreditation.
