That's really something. Usually it affects just one side of the body at a time. Usually following nerve paths. Can't imagine how miserable she was.

Yeah, it went all the way around front and back, left and right. I'll never forget that. It looked extremely painful.

Coworker of mine had that happen. IIRC, he worked from home for about 3 months. He said his doctor told him it was the worst case he'd ever seen. Even had it on his arms and head. Thankfully it didn't get into his eyes.

He was pig headed and didn't go to the doctor for Valtrex until it was way too late so nothing the doctor could give him except gabapentin for the pain.

Please don't put it off any longer. For several years after the shingrix vaccine came out our GP recommended my wife and I take it, even though we had had the single dose vaccine years before. We put it off and then Covid hit and we didn't follow up then either. In July of '23 we went to a family funeral for a nephew that passed the year before. The whole week was a mess; his parents and sister hadn't (and still haven't) processed his death. There was a lot of stress to deal with.

Sunday we drove back home and Tuesday we went to my annual physical. As we were walking into the office I showed her a spot on the right side of my chest that had just popped up that morning. The first thing she said was "Oh s…, that's shingles!" It was, and the doctor put me on gabapentin immediately. After we left the office and went to the pharmacy for the drugs my wife got her first Shingix shot. The next day we went to see our dermatologist for follow up on some skin issues she has and she told the doctor about my shingles. He called me in, looked me over, doubled the dose of the gabapentin and put me on an antiviral.

There was a blister on my chest, a couple on my right shoulder blade and my right arm from the armpit to my fingers was covered in blisters. That Friday, the 21st, I woke up with a shooting pain from the bottom of my neck to the top of my head, again on the right side, and about every 10 to 15 seconds it felt like an electric shock was going up that path. We went back to the GP's office and one of his associates saw me. Basically, it was just an effect of the shingles and there wasn't much they could do, but he prescribed some capsaicin ointment to help with the blisters. That really didn't help. We also had some other ointment that did help relieve the itching.

I had the blisters for about 6 weeks, using calamine lotion and trying to find a way to keep any contact off of my arm. The pain in the head never came back, thankfully. My doctor did recommend getting the vaccine three months after it was resolved, so I got my first dose in November. My wife was hit pretty hard by both doses, but I told her the vaccine was nothing compared to the actual outbreak,

I fully believe between the stress of the funeral and a lower immune system due to monthly injections for psoriasis, it was no surprise to have it hit me. It was seriously some of the worst pain I've had.

I still haven't had the shingles vaccination. Many people tell me one of them is really bad. I don't know if I'm just tempting fate but still not planning to get it. But those that I know that have had shingles to say it's a nightmare.

The Shingrix vaccine which I have had is considered to be much superior to the old ( 10 years ago ) vaccine
I asked my GP regularly if I should get it the vaccine and he would say no But after Shingrix came out he did recommend that vaccine
Iirc 2 shots second shot is recommended 6 weeks after the first shot Insurance covered 100% but that was like 8 years ago

The cool thing about measles is that we have a vaccine against that disease that actually has clinical data that supports its efficiency.

Don't forget all of the people who decided vaccines cause autism because a former playmate said so, or the newer group that now believes all vaccines are bad due to covid and feels.

How many people really actually stopped getting proven vaccines like the media claims ? Feels like the whole narrative that there are all these "anti vaccers" is on par with "right wing extremists" are the most dangerous group in America.
The reality is these easily preventable diseases such as measles are being so ready because of illegal immigration due to democrats open borders but the media won't admit that so they claim there is a new movement of anti vaccine people and there probably is a movement… of a few hundred people which is nothing compared to the millions that came across the Rio Grande. Don't forget that anyone who refused the covid jab was "anti vaccine" too.

I estimate 30-40% of new parents are not vaccinating. The anxiety driven algorithms are highly effective.

So 30% are American born, non Mennonite, parents refusing the most basic vaccines? I'm aware of parents (and doctors) being a bit more selective in the vaccine usage but 30% refusing all vaccines in pretty wild. Congrats media and system, you warped people so much regarding vaccine that you took attention off their millions of third world people coming over full of diseases and shifted the focus to Americans being brain washed to not get vaccines and inevitably blamed.

Exactly. Maybe importing millions of 3rd world people we brought in diseases. Just a thought...

As long as there's no mandate, I don't care what vaccines a person has.

Just finished my second shingles vaccine.

First one was rough. I was fine for about 24 hours other than arm soreness, but then it hit me like a ton of bricks the next day. Arm was red for four weeks.

Second one gave me a slight fever that first night but the next day I was fine. Much less arm redness.

But all of that was nothing compared to the actual shingles. People I know who've had it have been miserable for weeks.

Is it an actual vaccine?

Or an injectable pre-therapeutic?

I get offered that at HEB all of the time. So, I'm curious.

As much as it pains me to say it, there is not a single legitimate reason to send your kids to government schools. This is reason #9,600 why I don't.

Private school is not cheap, but it is affordable for most people with relatively small lifestyle tweaks.

our kids are worth it.

If I understand correctly, Shingrix is an actual vaccine. Non-live.

That sounds awful! I probably do need to get it. I've heard a few similar stories.

Thanks for the information everyone, especially on the different and newer vaccine.
I don’t get enough credit for the things I manage not to say.

I've had shingles. I'd rather have it again than go through what you described.

Got an email from my kids school yesterday about a chicken pox exposure in their 3rd grade class.. the f?

That used to be considered an invitation

Back in the 70's, my entire 3rd grade class got chicken pox over a 2-3 week period. Mothers were relieved.

I had my vaccine last year. First shot was nothing. Second one, I had a little redness and soreness for about 3 days. Glad I did not have such an adverse reaction.
