AUSTIN, Texas President Donald Trump said on Monday he would support suspending the federal gas tax as Americans continue to deal with rising fuel prices caused by the war in Iran.
Suspending that tax would require congressional approval and cost the government billions in revenue. There are growing calls to do it because it would provide relief for families and businesses.

Then
Quote:

Now, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is reversing his position from a few days ago and saying he'd be open to it.

LOL, tax and spend Cornyn first didn't support this, but now, all of a sudden, supports suspending it.

Hmmmm. Could it be he is still trying to get Trump's endorsement? Or, is this just him trying to give another example on how he supports Trump.
Quote:

SMU political science professor Cal Jillson said. "Cornyn rolls in behind him because both Cornyn and Paxton still hope that Trump will endorse very late in this runoff, and that will help whoever he endorses, obviously. So, they're working hard to accommodate themselves to him."

And later
Quote:

"Any position that he needs to change, he feels like he has to do it. He'll suffer short-term embarrassment as a flip-flopper. But if it gets him back for another six years in the Senate, he's more than happy to do that," Jillson said.

So, a Rino that worked hard behind the scenes in the past, and one who actually supported Liz Chaney, is now trying to act like he's a conservative.

He's toast and he knows it. It's kind of pathetic at this point actually.

Good old Campaign Cornyn showing up again and throwing out all the tricks in the bag during election season.

Then he changes back into Chameleon Cornyn when he heads back to Washington to actually govern.

He isn't fooling anybody this time.

Another use of the English language I abhor. It's not revenue...it's a tax. Call it what it is.

Cornyn is in full on, desperate, ass-kissing mode. The guy needs to retain a bit of dignity.

Cornyn bill would create Interstate 47 in Texas to honor Trump

Texas Sen. John Cornyn (R), who is in a tight reelection contest to keep his Senate seat, introduced legislation on Tuesday to dedicate a highway to President Trump.

"I am proud to introduce legislation to rename US Highway 287 as Interstate 47 in honor of our 47th President," Cornyn wrote in a social media post.

Suspending the gas tax is not really a conservative position in that it is yet another short-term hustle that is harmful from a budgetary perspective and does nothing of address the root causes of energy price spikes.

The people paying attention and with a vision of the forest instead of the trees aren't getting fooled, and they were already voting for Paxton or Hunt in the primary.

But there's still plenty of people that advocate voting for Cornyn in the runoff because they would rather a RINO win than take even the slightest chance on Paxton. They are enabling the very problem they complain about since RINO types aren't pulling to the right while in the majority but rather just standing still wasting their pendulum swing.

Sounds to me that If they can suspend this tax, why can't they just eliminate it? If that "revenue" isn't needed for some sort of government function then why do we have it at all? We don't need temporary relief. We need permanent relief from our overbearing kleptocracy of a govt.

This would make sense if you advocated for a complete exit of the Federal government in construction, maintenance, and repair of roads and bridges.

Hobbling infrastructure or shifting to a complete privatization - privately owned toll roads for everyone - seems a bit drastic however given the much easier and less vital sources of government expense that can be addressed first.

I thought Cornyn would win this runoff the whole time, but now I'm not so sure. Dude is the worst and proves it over and over again.

Did I miss the provision in the constitution that required ONLY infrastructure be paid for ONLY through gas taxes?

We spend less than $60 BILLION on this stuff, anyway.

No but your are just robbing Peter to pay Paul in your scenario and knowing Congress, they would just let it pass into the deficit and let the national debt grow and grow and grow. This is not a conservative position.

Well, one less year of USAID and this is more than paid for.

It doesn't really look like we use the gas tax to maintain infrastructure anyway. Perhaps I'm wrong and the budget really drives off that figure, but I have extreme doubt.

Cornyn can verbalize whatever his position is and a sane person would understand it means squat. He has DEMONSTRATED that he is a go-along-to-get-along DemocRAT back scratching RINO. Stalwart of legislation that has the ability to save our voting integrity, The Save Act.

He has to GO.
"Green" is the new RED.

It is almost entirely spent on infrastructure, but it is just a small part of that bill. The tax nets $30 Billion a year and the government spends an additional $70 Billion via the Federal Highway Administration appropriation.

That combined $100 Billion has resulted in some of the most decrepit infrastructure in the world.

Dude is 74 Fing years old. These old RINOs are trying to hang on for life.

Guessing they want a couple years of getting back to the good old days after we win 2028. They must think JD or Rubio will revert the party back to being limp wrist losers

One worthless state is Kentucky. Those nimrods gave us Mitch for a last time, dude is on life support and they have a DEM governor

Think Arizona takes the cake as the worst R state or what use to be R. They completely self destructed a solid R state. DeSantis should move there and become Governor, he would turn them around really quick
