That's a poor take on "new" history.

Of course they were religious. Most all were though some were noted atheists / agnostic or some continuum thereof.

Now, to the point to think you are making, the FFs wanted to guard against a mandated national religion and certainly not having a religion exert its power and influence on the government.

What that has been co-opted to is an EXCLUSION of religion and in particularly Christianity from everything. That was not the intention of the "separation of church and state".

To me the Rededication 250 is consistent with their intentions, to allow for these events to be held on the National Mall and be attended by political and community leaders but not as being mandated by law from the floors of Congress.

They need a little reminder of President Lincoln's proclamation for a Thanksgiving HOLIDAY dedicated to just what Trump suggested for today……..
