He hasn't been in the limelight until very recently, so the alleged girlfriend would have had no reason to avoid it, no? And she was supposedly an employee. My guess is that they discovered what his overt gayness was doing to his polling, so they canvassed his campaign staff and found someone willing to be his "girlfriend" to try and get him elected. If that happened, then the pressures of political life would cause the break-up and he could Lindsay Graham his way through the rest of his political career without us ever knowing this girlfriend's identity.
