I think it is actually an interesting story, but it is not possible to tell it today without it being a DEI lesson.

Case in point:
Quote:

For centuries, Estevanico remained little more than a footnote in Spanish chronicles, and a forgotten figure among Americans.

"That's because his exploration isn't tied to the foundational myth of the United States," said Lalami.

Estovanico, also known as Esteban, was enslaved. He did not willingly join Cabeza de Vaca's expedition. If he guided Vaca's men following their shipwreck on Galveston Island, then his navigation skills were lacking (refer to the details below). He assaulted the indigenous people and ultimately faced a barrage of arrows in his back as he fled from the furious parents and spouses of Native American women.

True history is painful, but should not be glossed over.

Africa invented AI.

One of my favorite things about AI is how easy it is now to make AI videos making fun of stupid ideas like this.

There has been no greater gift to humanity since Prometheus than the gift of AI to weaponized autism.

This is hilarious. You actually seem to believe in the Wakanda bull**** revisionist history about Africa and Africans' contribution to science and human progress. I make a comment that I would expect you to blue star since you believe it's not a joke! Instead, you denigrate it.

Dude.

I was actually agreeing with you that the idea that Africa invented AI is ridiculous, and that AI is a great weapon against making fun of people that like to promote those types of ideas as actually true.

Unless, do you disagree with me that the idea that Africa invented AI is a stupid idea?

As I was driving to dinner tonight, I noticed numerous Hispanic owned businesses along the way. The black community had a massive headstart and outside of an occasional soul food restaurant, they don't own and run **** in this country.

I've never seen a black owned tree trimming biz, concrete biz, roofing biz, framing biz, flooring biz, etc. I've seen numerous Hispanic owned businesses in all those areas.

The young guy who came to fix my AC yesterday was Hispanic. If I ever see a black male fixing an AC, I'll probably die of shock.

They've never done ***** The African continent hasn't done **** outside the time they were colonized and run by the Euros. We've gone from refusing to speak truth to flat out lying now

I want to give a shout out to my friend Dejuan HVAC at Anointed HVAC that services NW Houston. In high school, I worked for a company that sold AC units to AC service companies in Houston. About 1/3rd of the techs picking up units and putting them in the back of their service pick-up trucks were black.

I also mourn the loss of the awesome BBQ stand that used to sell affordable BBQ out of a trailer in the Ace's parking lot in Cypress, and who would give you a free Iced T if you told him you were carrying a gun. Luckily Gatlin Brothers is still a great place to go in the Garden Oaks area, I recommend the pork ribs and dirty rice.

I worked in SBA lending in Houston straight out of college in the early aughts, and 75% of the loans that we financed were to black men or black women business owners. We had the occasional Hispanic or white woman borrower, but mostly black. A bunch of them had been in business for years but needed capital to recover from Hurricane Andrew, which was devastating to a part of the city that was mostly black, so it made sense that the successful black business owners from that area needed extra capital.

The post above is racist bull***** We have a problem with violent crime in young black men in America, but you don't need to mix that up with the contributions to the economy by good people. The idea that our economy has no hard-working black men or black entrepreneurs is an opinion that is formed out of ignorance and prejudice.

Shame.

LOL. Of course there are lots of small business loans given to blacks. They give them out like candy. They get favored treatment. Many are a front for businesses that are actually run by non-black people. No different than white males making their wives the owner of their biz so they can get easy SBA loans. Females also get preferential treatment too. You worked for the SBA and seem to be oblivious to that.

There is nothing racist about facts. My post is true. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. You posting up a couple of personal anecdotes as evidence to the contrary is weak. We were also talking about tradesmen, not restaurants, yet you throw in a BBQ joint in your anecdotes.. I acknowledged that I've seen a black owned restaurants. Your position is a huge part of the problem. You refuse to acknowledge the truth. So here we are now, revising history.

And you post this "we have a problem with violent crime in young black men in America" and characterize my post of being racist?! SMH.

Shame.

Fact: We have a problem with violent crime in the community of young black men. I can back this up with data.

Racist opinion: [Black people have] never done ***** The African continent hasn't done **** outside the time they were colonized and run by the Euros. We've gone from refusing to speak truth to flat out lying now.

If I were to count the number of males by race working in the professional trades across this country, the count would literally be 99.999% white/hispanic/asian and 0.001% black, 1 in 10,000. I'm quite confident of that. I'm not going to take the time to do it because you can't be convinced. You've decided that blacks are just as involved in these areas as other races - as both workers and business owners - based on the fact that you know a black guy who does AC work. I bet you also think they are many black astronauts and doctors and lawyers and computer programmers because you know one.

There is nothing racist about my opinion. It's based on the evidence and the data. Thus, your comment is just as racist as mine based on your own standard. Was my opinion harshly stated? Yes. Because I'm tired of the revisionism by white liberals. But its not racist.

Here is some data from a company that collects said type of data:

https://www.careerexplorer.com/careers/hvac-technician/demographics/

Ethnic Mix, 2019
  • White (72%)
  • Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish (11%)
  • Black or African American (9%)
  • Other (4%)
  • South Asian (1%)
  • East Asian (1%)
  • Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander (1%)
  • Aboriginal (0%)
Of course it's not some scientific poll, but that 's not even close to 0.001% black.

Any chance you have any data to pull from that would refute the above?

You do understand that the numbers that you yourself made up because you think that's probably what they have to be based on nothing but your own head-canon aren't actually "evidence" or "data" right?

You've basically spent the entire thread arguing points supported by personal anecdotes just to bring it all full circle to admonish other posters for using personal anecdotes in their responses that quite obviously were only offered as a direct contrast to yours. The difference is that they also presented actual, verifiable data as well.

The stuff that you're hyping up as evidence is basically just an elaborate version of "trust me guys, i know."

One last question- It couldn't be possible that you haven't encountered black people with those careers because you're openly racist and actively avoid doing business with black people, could it? I know you seem like such a tolerant, open-minded kind of guy that has lots of black friends… but I had to at least ask

No, I admonished them for using personal exceptions to try to disprove the assertion. A single exception doesn't refute a general tendency

So, per you, it's obvious I must be a racist that I've never encountered a single black person in all those service areas I listed. Not one, ever! I did have one encounter that I had forgotten about where I had black males help me: moving company. My bad.

I have had black people picking up my trash, preparing my food at the local burger joint and other restaurants, delivering my mail and UPS goods, checking me out at the car rental, checking me out in the department store, checking me out at the grocery store and at Home Depot. And just about every time I go into a state, local or Federal government office, I have black people helping me. You know I could go to another restaurant and grocery store to avoid those black people, right? Wouldn't a racist do that?

Every time I picked up the phone to call the plumber, I made sure to tell them I don't want no black folk doing any work for me, just browns, whites and asians! LOL. I guess the other posters who have had the same experience are also racist.

You and Buster played the race card. If you have to play the race card, you've lost the argument. Your position and beliefs are the reason crap like the OP is happening. It's the reason SATs were dropped for college admission. It's the reason we have zero tolerance policies in schools. It's the reason standards were lowered for cops, fire department and other civil service new hires. Etc Etc Etc. Pick a dumb ass procedure or policy, and the root cause is found by looking at the absurd stupidity pushed by people on your side.

I was on vacation a couple of years ago in Belgium and casually speaking with an older lady at the shop she owned while we were buying some gifts.

She noticed that we were American and asked me a question about crime in America.

I think I just kind of blew it off and said, "it depends where you live. Some places are worse than others.". Something to that effect, anyway.

She looks at me and says, "it's the blacks, isn't it?"

From a 75 year old woman in Bruges, Belgium, where I literally didn't see a single black person in 8 days.

Everyone on the planet knows. In every country on Earth where they have a measurable population, they commit the vast majority of violent crimes per capita and are always at the very bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.

I guess every country on earth is just holding them down, right?

The truth is right in front of everyone, people just don't want to admit it for whatever strange reason.

Did you tell her "They want your white flesh"?

Did you actually read my post at all or did you just jump right in to responding to what you wanted it to say in order to set up the thing you actually wanted to complain about? You seem to be confused so maybe I can clear things up for you. In no way was I suggesting that you were lying about having never seen a black maintenance man or whatever it was. I couldn't care less whether you have or haven't, and the veracity of those anecdotes is completely irrelevant to anything I said.

What I did point out was that it's an interesting strategy to suggest you have the superior claim on account of your fact and evidence based points (vs the other poster using anecdotes) while simultaneously not offering things like facts and evidence beyond your own personal anecdotes.

I must admit, though, I did enjoy the part where you recognized that you were citing made up numbers, but then you reassured any doubters by letting us know that you were very confident in those made up numbers. so even If this whole thing is an elaborate troll, that part made it all worth it

1) I never played the race card.

2) For a good discussion on racial politics in America, i recommend Thomas Sowell and Coleman Hughes. Two of the smartest men in America. I like Hughes' approach to a colorblind America.

3) Data is not a personal anecdote.

1. You absolutely did.

2. Racial politics? The subject was a simple assertion about the dramatic dearth of black males in the professional trades, which you dispute with anecdotes and some data from a website that is selling a service. It wasn't a discussion about why.or policies at all.

3 is hilarious. Your initial response was anecdotal, including something about a black owned Bar BQ joint, which is completely irrelevant since the topic was black males owning and/or working in the trades.

Can you really fail to see the differences between these two?

But it's not racist.

You didn't suggest I lied, you suggested I am racist and thus my racism is the reason I've never interacted with a black plumber, or whatever. I responded with my numerous interactions with black people in other occupations, which is an obvious refutation of your allegation. I also responded with the ridiculous scenario that I would have had to go through to ensure that I never interacted with a black person in those occupations. You got down in the gutter with your accusation and don't even understand how stupid it is.

So you read my response, but were not able to comprehend it.

I never admitted to using made up numbers. What you babbling about? I posted an opinion of what I believe the racial breakdown of professional tradesmen to be based on my six decades on this planet. Do you not understand the difference between statement of fact and statement of opinion? Doesn't seem so.

You got me bro. I guess you are like 0.001% right.
