Boomers, the most selfish and entitled generation of all time, are acting selfish and entitled? No way.

Bless your tiny stunted brainstem.

Older people getting a small portion of the money they put into the system arent the problem. At all.

SS should have been put into marketable securities and allowed to grow like the securities markets grow. Just that one change 10 or 20 or 30 years ago would have solved the entire problem. Libs didn't want it.

Except the older people getting the money are the ones that voted to allow SS to be stolen from... Stop trying to act like Boomers don't bear some of the responsibility here.

There's a lot of talk on both sides of the aisle about creating a sovereign wealth fund where large corporations contribute a small % of passive/non-voting shares. (No cash changes hands). Over time, the people/govt have a broad portfolio of companies who have a presence in the US. There's your pathway to SS revenue...

Talk has blown up lately due to AI companies & the potential for associated job losses, but it could/would include all businesses...and it's not just the socialists/commies making all the noise.

Get ready... it's coming!

I'm 45 and know that I won't see a penny of SS. I will also likely see my SS taxes grow 2x to 3x per year as they remove the caps to keep the merry-go-round moving. While I would see a fully maxed out benefit with current rules, I expect to be fully means tested out.

Everyone is just putting fuel on the fire to hope they don't have to pay for anything until they die.

It's like how boomers came up with the idea of participation trophies, made participation trophies, and handed out participation trophies, then decades later blamed the ones they handed them to for participation trophies being a thing.

Means testing should be implemented immediately. The hard cap needs to hit as well. Multi-generational living is the future so we all have a share in it.

And the age should not be increased; we've seen what boomers hanging around in the workplace has done for those below them. There's a decrease in mental and physical acuity to where people in their mid 60s are less fit for jobs. Do we really want them relegated to bagging groceries and cashier work as their ability declines? It pushes other people (high school) out of the workforce and denies opportunity on the back end.

My two cents.

Easy there trigger. I am a boomer and this poll is bull***** I do not know anyone that thinks like this.

Truth be told, I think SS needs to be phased out altogether. The US govt has proven for generations that they cannot keep their hands out of it for their "programs." It would be far cheaper for the US government to issue 1 time checks to folks and pay them off with a return of their SS contributions + a market based return on investment. Afterwards, you keep your paycheck. There is no SS tax.

I think the poll is spot on.

There is a very large percentage of Boomers who live on nothing but SS and Medicare. They have no pension, no savings and no wealth outside the equity in their home.

Ok, just for argument's sake I will take what you said as absolutely true for the purpose of this post/reply. In what world do you (or the person you are replying to/others, including posters who actually vote for Democrats somehow) envision a US congress and Potus passing legislation to abolish social security? Heck, Mike Johnson has said he wants to tackle 'reform' (meaning cuts) but that is about the least popular thing a legislative group can do.

I think it has to either collapse (most likely), or we need to make the younger adult taxpayers entirely resentful by taxing the everliving hell out of them over social security such that they reject the DSA/socialist crap the Democrat-CCP folks feed them. I see this as a policy issue, as such.

The elderly are at the top of an inverted pyramid.

Your only options are:

1) Political Suicide of cutting benefits

2) Political suicide of increasing taxes

3) The solution everyone in the West is trying instead: Mass import the third world and pray they'll become productive tax payers to prop up the welfare system instead just becoming an even bigger drain on the welfare system

Which generation is most responsible for electing said asshats? And which generation were most of said asshats a part of?

Well, I can assure you that the boomers that I know did not elect any of these Democrat liberal progressive folks

Modern Republicans have an equal hand in destroying the finances of this Country.

Republican Boomers voted for stupid social policies, foreign conflics, and their chosen welfare schemes. Exact same as the Democrat Boomers only different sides of the same coin.

Unless the Boomers you know are Ron Paul disciples and in that case I raise my glass to them and I hope they know there are lots of us who will carry on the torch to hopefully save this Country.

"The boomers/olds now want the young kids to pay for their relaxed golfing lifestyle after screwing up the country by selling out manufacturing and tech to other countries and recommending that kids today take up HVAC and plumber jobs.
Maybe India and China should pay for social security.

How convenient.

Boomers keep endearing themselves to everyone as the days go by."

I think our unreasoning hate is misdirected here. It's not the older generation that would benefit from increasing taxes for social security. It would take several years to implement, and they won't be around much longer.

It's their kids and grandkids who would benefit from keeping it viable as is for the future.

Ive paid into it all my life and I say it needs to be abolished. At least that will stop some of the foolishness in the government trying to use as their slush fund.

I am all for abolishing but many have paid into it for decades and they are gonna be pissed. I have many friends in nice houses now realizing they don't have much money net worth, so they are relying on SS in the future.

I think it is time to tax foreign countries for the pleasure of doing business with us.

So, like tariffs? With the important exception that everyone pays something, about the worst thing a country can do for long term economic prosperity. It rewards the inefficient.

Why not? Other countries are getting rich off us so might as well get a piece of the pie.

Boomers (like my parents) who don't contribute to the economy much anymore, want more money. Meanwhile, I'm told I'll never see a dime that I put in as GenX.

Why does this seem like the largest Ponzi Scheme in the history of the world?

They deserve interest as well.

Did you miss the part where SS is a tax? Nobody gets interest on their paid taxes. A smart person would take half of what they paid in SS taxes as a lump sum payment along with the end of the tax.

As someone just said, there was an attempt to phase it into something more akin to a retirement account, and people lost their friggin minds over that.
