Well I suppose there was lots of irony to joke about when a country invited a population onto a land literally named for friendship, only later to have said population start an armed secessionist movement which led to the loss of more than half of said country's landmass, and a vast majority of its productive farmland. That's actually not what happened.

The Englishman was pointing out that signs and instructions in England are in different languages, because the immigrants have demanded this. His point, is that if you're in England, and came to live with the English....learn to speak English.

Oliver made the erroneous connection to a lake on a different continent.

It's a matter of assimilation, and what we're seeing here. We used to be the melting pot. Now many/most immigrants refuse to assimilate, and stick to their own cultures. That's harmful to the fabric of a nation. England is experiencing this.
