His socialist supermarkets could put New York's little grocers out of business.
Quote:

At an October campaign event, Zohran Mamdani received the endorsement of the United Bodegas of America, an advocacy group for some 14,000 neighborhood grocery stores. After holding up an egg-cheese-and-jalapeño sandwich from a local shop, he announced, "I look forward to delivering for every single bodega owner."
Many bodega owners say the mayor has betrayed them by pushing ahead with his plan to create city-owned supermarkets. The government "should be working with us," says Francisco Marte, 59, owner of Green Earth Food in the Bronx and president of the Bodega and Small Business Association of New York. "That type of business run by the government, they never succeed. They always fail, and they fail big and with a lot of money that could have been used for something better." Carlos Collado, 58, owner of a Fine Foods store in the Bronx, asks: "How can one compete against that monster that is weaponizing our own tax dollars?"

Something about "voting your way in and having to shoot you way out" comes to mind...

It plays itself out over and over despite massive evidence of failure throughout time.

Poltically ignorant people are starting to learn that these aren't your uncle's democrats. They make the dems of the 1990's and early 2000's look like right winged extremists. Too bad, shouldn't have been stupid!

I wish I had sympathy for them, but I don't. Elections have consequences and I could see this coming from 1500 miles away.

The bodega owners don't need to worry at all about these city y owned grocery stores they will sell and dramatic fashion. Always have always will.

If only there were some kind of indication Mamdani would be this extreme before the election…

Idiots.

Reminder that he actually lost the American voter share; he had to win via the 'immigrant' (non-native) votes (in 'south asian' communities. Among fellow islamic colonizers, he's very popular, in other words.

Even in NYC, he wasn't actually very popular as a candidate despite the press, it's just that they also have very low turnout for off-year elections (as in 2025) so he was able to make it functionally via the student and moslem immigrant community votes. Add, Silwa and Cuomo were very flawed candidates as well.

As a standard-bearer for the leftists, he is much weaker than they would have folks believe imho.
