If you dont have a good agent. FInd one. And dont use insurance firms that dont give you a personal agent. The 1800 call an agent to handle your stuff is a disaster for everyone.

Farmers uses agents still.

They do. My dog is more useful if you need help.

Bring on AI, for the agents anyway. Adjusters are the bigger scumbags who are the ones who legitimately go out of their way to screw you over, but at least they do something. Even if their job is to make sure you get the least help possible, it's a harder role to replace with AI from my experience. At least with a person, when they try to screw you over, which they do with every word they say, you have a chance to counter it and threaten legal actions if need be, which was the only way I got even close to a fair treatment. Can't do that with a computer.

you have a bad agent. we have a great agent. they call us to save money. when we call they give us strategies to reduce spending and keep our stuff insured. they handle problems all the time.

I had a barn fire (lightning hit it). It just had a bunch of older things in there (I had an old Holley carb, for instance), and my agent told me to make sure ( add them all up - even the couple buckets of odd nuts and bolts I had. I turned in my estimate.

When I got my check it was for $500 MORE than what I'd estimated - they had gone through and repriced a number of things upwards.

I went WTF???? Aren't they supposed to screw you over and LOWER it?
You can turn off signatures, btw

Just had this discussion with my brother (not SF but another major) a few weeks back. He said corporate has been cutting their commission rates fairly aggressively, and he feels like he waited too long to sell his agency and find something else to do with his life.

I'm sure agents can get replaced by AI ultimately, but it seems like good agents provide worth by going to bat for their clients and working the bureaucracy on their client's behalf. Of course, an easier option for the client might be to find a provider that doesn't suck. Is that even possible? I'd say the same is probably true for financial advisors eventually, though I think the relational aspect of planning does have value in hard times... so, that will be just something we end up losing to technology.

With that said, I welcome him selling and finding a new career... ultimately, I'd save $ shopping my rates, but it's my brother. lol.

So our rates should go down. Good.

My GF is an independent insurance agent and we had this discussion a year ago. AI is going to decimate that industry.

Sucks for the agents.

Rates never go down. This is just an attempt at expanding profits.
