Ironically, healthcare is the single biggest market sector I hope to see AI/robotics replace. Not unlike self driving cars, the machines are going to do it better.

I look forward to my robodoc/nurse at a fraction of the cost. This is ultimately the end game for healthcare.

The lawyers and human psychology will prevent that from happening, at least in our lifetime.

Lawyers and lawsuits are why medical pros will never become government employees. The Dems will push it to the limit - Medicare for All, etc.. - which will all screw the docs, but limiting lawyer income is a bridge too far.

But we still need to ship in 10000000000000 H1Bs because we lack programming skills in America because we just are lazy and stupid, amirite CEOs?

This is so true. But what about the Administration's involvement here?

I have a son in college and I can tell you that there was a lot of excitement when Trump started talking about limiting H1B visas. These kids in college are having a really tough time right now getting internships and getting employment, especially as companies are unsure as to how implementation of AI will affect their workforce needs. I can tell you from what he said, Trump lost quite a bit of support after he dropped that idea, presumably because big business whispered in his ear.

Thank you. Everything I post here is true (though uncomfortable). The problem is the Boomer pop here is stuck in 1986 when a crisp suit and a firm handshake got them a job. They assume that if you cannot get a job, you are lazy and cannot compete with Hussein from Pakistan.

I have a kid who is starting work soon and his offers have been underwhelming even though he just graduated from a top 5 school for an in-demand tech area. No, he isn't lazy or stupid, he is a hard working intelligent American kid who deserves opportunities more than someone from a foreign country who is assumed to be "cheap". And yes, the US owes him this if he is expected to fight and be loyal to the country. And the country is expected to force US companies to hire locally.

Also note that the ones who make fun of me here are the grifters who stand to lose if Trump kicks out these H1B pretenders. People like immigration lawyers, CEOs, home builders, and many many types of professionals who stand to make money this. A large portion are retired people who just care about their IRAs, country be damned. There is some percentage who cling on to "free markets" like it is some kind of magic mantra. We don't have free markets and never have. I don't care about anyone making fun of me, but I am getting the message across.

Trump doesn't know when to shut up though. There was no need to say we needed H1Bs. Yes, we do need 0.0000001% of them. What is happening now is an invasion. Trump is actually throwing people out behind the scenes by making life miserable for them. I track Linkedin, blind, instagram, facebook and other places and I see people announcing departures every day. "After 16 years in Seattle, I have decided to move back home to India... to be close to my family". Uh... sure. As long as you GTFO the reason does not matter.

The housing situation in DFW is in large because of H1Bs kicked out. It will affect SF Bay and Seattle also. It is almost impossible for foreign students who come here for a degree to get a job here. No, we don't want their "talents" and "skills". We got enough here. Go make your own country better.

Let's see how things go. Trump seems to have gone silent on this to avoid attention while doing everything undercover. That is how I see it. Maybe aggie93 knows more.

Our son just took the MCAT last week and have talked to him about this as his back up plan.

Good plan. Intubating is an art and a skill that is easier to accomplish in clinical setting like an OR as opposed to the side of a road or the back of an ambulance.
Or lying prone on the floor of an apartment.

I will humbly admit to some of the reforms that Trump has made. The total number of H1-B Visas has not changed, but some of the fees have increased and there is expanded screening of applicants. One of my employees has a next door neighbor who did time in a federal prison for his participation in an Indian fake documentation scheme aimed at getting unqualified workers here on visas.

The big one was the $100,000 fee. I wish he put pressure on Congress to pass some of this, otherwise it wouldn't be able to be slapped down by a federal judge, as it was. Unless we are at a ridiculously low rate of unemployment and starving for skilled workers that we cannot train at home, the H1-B visa system needs a major overhaul.

As an admitted aside, according to my son, who has a pretty decent pulse on college aged conservatives, the Iran war/conflict/quagmire was really where he lost a lot of his following. But there is an entire thread for that. Visas aren't the biggest problem that needs significant overhaul, but they do represent a disproportionate challenge for new college grads, even those who didn't study Gender Studies.
