Every time I see one of those stupid nose rings, I think of visiting my grandparent's farm when I was a little boy. In their small barn, there was a hog, a very unfriendly hog. It had a nose ring. Every time I see one of these people I think of that hog and wonder if they will end up being salted and hung up from the rafters in the main room of the house.

As to answer as to why the hogs were salted and stored that way, before the tech boom in the early 2000s, Ireland was still a very backwards country. My grandparents did have electricity, and a small dorm sized refrigerator, but not much else. They never had a phone. Heat was from the fire place. Potatoes were cooked in an iron kettle hung over the fire. Hot water came from the kettle when not cooking potatoes.

These are the people tearing at the foundations of our country with the belief that they can create a better society.
