Got a high schooler looking at A&M engineering and have a few questions:
1) How strong is the emphasis on internships in the A&M college of engineering?
2) Are they required as part of the degree program?
3) How good Is A&M at bringing these internship opportunities to campus rather than having students find their own unaided?

I would say that the emphasis is really high between the career fairs, the professional development course, and the career center located in the Zachary building.
2) Are they required as part of the degree program?
Each major has a professional development course where you write a paper reflecting on how you have applied your major to your internship.
3) How good is A&M at bringing these internship opportunities to campus rather than having students find their own unaided?
A&M engineering hosts the largest career fair in the nation with over 600 companies in attendance in the fall and spring. Additionally, each major holds its own career fair, and most engineering orgs do some professional development or company presentations throughout the year.

Is the job placement for College of Engineering still high these days? We are hearing about how challenging the job market is for kids graduating college across the country these days. My son wants to focus on engineering schools that are most likely to help him land a good job upon graduation.

It depends on the major. For example, Computer Science has seen a drop-off due to all the tech layoffs, while I have heard of freshmen getting internships in Civil Engineering because few people want to do civil. Also, the job market will change a bunch over the next 4-5 years. The career center has a website below that shows salaries and the companies where graduates were hired.
