My wife has been unemployed for almost 9 months after a layoff in February and has gone through the job hunt pain making it through multiple rounds of interviews only to have the company halt filling new positions, getting ghosted after three rounds of interviews, interviewing for lower level positions and being rejected for a younger cheaper candidate, etc. She has a great prospect now having made it through the recruiter interview, an interview with the Director of the department she would be under as well as someone that is what would be a peer position. Now she has an invite to fly to Dallas for a final interview next week. It is a panel interview with the HRBP, the Operations Mgr that the role would support, and with someone in the same role she is interviewing for but with a "Sr." Title and finally someone in performance reporting.

Anyone have any idea what that would mean if anything? It is a Marketing role and my wife has a ton of experience in both Agency and Client Side Marketing and her latest job was in this same role for a similar company. Is it strange that the Marketing person on the panel reports to someone that already interviewed her and liked her and advanced her in the process?

I read through the email that described the expected process and participants in the final and came to the conclusion the Director wants to hire her and this final looks like it is a "red flag" interview and as long as the panel gets the feeling she would fit in with the team and has no red flags that she likely leaves with an offer. I have never had to fly and stay overnight for an interview, would a company do that unless they were strongly leaning towards making an offer? Am I reading too much into the people and format and she still has a big hill to climb before an offer may be extended? My wife is tired of getting emotionally crushed and is worrying herself silly over it.

I work for a fairly large company and only do this when we're ready to make a decision. Agree with your read on the situation, as the Director wants to move forward with the offer and they've decided on a final interview. The key at this stage is to be likeable and relatable as they are trying to make sure, she would assimilate well onto the team and be easy to work with. The HRBP is just a note take and not a decision maker. The "Sr." role knows the position well and is essentially measuring to see if your wife will fit in, along with the Ops Manager.

Wishing and praying for your wife to have success in her interview.

Sometimes at this phase, we could be down to two candidates, and we are deciding between two, so you should know that going in. Are they paying the cost to fly her in for the interview?

Yes they are booking her a hotel and will be sending her flight info on Monday.

When I got hired for the position I have now they flew me out and it was really just a "how will you fit in with the team" type of feeling. Had another interview with the manager, couple teammates that was about 30 minutes, then just a discussion with a director level. Once that was over, the whole team went out for lunch and talked and hung out. Got the offer call when I was in the airport to fly home that afternoon.

I interviewed a long time ago with a lady who was late to work and took me into the kitchen to get herself a cup of coffee. She didn't offer me one.

I got the offer and declined for that reason.

Wife received the plane ticket and hotel accommodation info. They gave her the itinerary which includes one on one interviews with the hiring Director for 30 min. Then the Sr Marketing person that reports to him. Then 30 min with the Ops person, 30 with the Perf Reporting person, then 30 with the HRBP with the final 30 min a tour of the home office.

When I hire, I typically have a final in person interview. I do not bring in multiple people. I bring in my top candidate only. Assuming it goes well, the offer typically follows. I know someone above mentioned getting the offer at the airport. That is fast. I can typically let them know that things went well within a day, and the verbal/written offer goes out within a couple of days.

Any company that plays that many games is not anyone I would want to work for.

I want to agree with you, but I also think I would love to make someone drive me to the supermarket and back as a part of the interview.

I'd see if they have a temper, if they put the cart back, how they treat strangers....

Yes! She received an offer letter this week and first Day after the Thanksgiving holiday. Salary offer is the max in the range for the position so she is back to making the salary when she was laid off. This company is in healthy growth mode too and is doing really well right now.

All of the angst and disappointments of the last 8 months for her must have been fate telling her to hold out for the right job.

This was spot on. The job is remote with travel and we live right in the middle of the Region she will be assigned but there were two other finalists one being local to the Corp Office so we worried that person may have an edge. Experience and personality were the things they told her were the deciding factor in her offer.
