The last 8 games after we play after the Bengals include 4 games against fellow last place teams (Az, Den, Jets, Clev) 3 at home, plus 4 division games including both tanking Titans games. That looks like a possible 6-2 finish. The opening 6 before the bye aren't easy. I think 3-3 would be great but 2-4 might be OK. The 3 games after the bye are likely 1-2 or 2-1 assuming we lose to the Bengals.

I think our floor is 6 wins but a 3-3 start to go with a 6-2 finish could be a 10-7 playoff contender.

The Titans games being late probably means we face Levis. Beating Indy at home week 2 will be huge to avoid a really slow start.

The NFL forgets we exist most of the time which based on our recent performance might be reasonable. They would probably have us playing at 9am on Wednesdays if they could.

I agree. Pro bowler. He had signed a 3 year/40 million dollar contract with the Jags. I would say it's well worth the amount.

Wow, this team has a massive influx of talent from last year. If we can find 1 or 2 more outside WRs, we could have a legit outside chance at a wildcard spot.

You think this with which QB? Can Stroud being good enough as a rookie? I maybe could see it with Mills if the defense vastly improves, but at best he can only help avoid losses. It's not like he will take one over and lead the team to victory.

I'm not arguing your point, just curious how you see that scenario playing out.

I think they get better and turn a corner but I have doubts that a rookie HC with a rookie OC and DC, coaching a rookie QB can be that successful.

I think the talent is there but the lack of experience holds them back (for now).

Look at it this way, with our schedule, and with a vastly improved defense, and an offense that is centered around running the ball with a set of good RBs and a good offensive line, how many lucky breaks would we need to have a realistic shot at a wild card birth (I'm also lumping in winning the south at the same level as a wildcard birth)? I would think we wouldn't need that many to be in contention for getting into the playoffs. If we were running an offense that put everything on the QB, then I would put our chances much lower. But this offense probably puts some of the lowest amount of pressure on a QB's shoulders in the NFL.

Again, I'm talking about an outside chance to just get into the playoffs here, and we're in one of the worst divisions in the NFL. A division where Jax got in barely above .500 last year after being the worst team in the NFL for back to back years..

While I'm still predicting 6 wins, for now, I have to agree that your clarification is certainly possible. I think Nick gave up too much for the #3 pick (and looking at the analytics he did) but he is really offsetting losing some of the draft picks by picking up some quality free agents. The OL looks to be much improved and so if we have a strong running game and limit our rookie QB to safe plays and play great defense, you never know. The key will be winning a lot of low-scoring, 17-14 type games.

Nick is building around a rookie QB the right way. You never know how they will pan out so you need to give them every chance with decent protection and some weapons, unlike how they did with Carr.

Yeah, pretty much the same thing. I've got us on that 6-7 win mark, so a few lucky breaks and the injury gods not being evil I could see us stealing 2-3 wins with a strong defensive showing which could get us the south or a wild card berth depending on how everything in the AFC shakes out.

Although, one of the biggest thing is that there has been so much movement around the AFC, that it's tough to guess anything. Even if we could shock everyone (fans included) and somehow win 12 games we still not make the playoffs, but, at the same time, we could also barely squeak out 8 or 9 wins by the skin of our teeth and get in by winning the South. Should be an interesting year, that I really hope is entertaining for us.

Crazy thing is, Jacksonville could go 6-0 in our division and still not win the division with having a first place schedule vs our last place schedule.

AFC is just crazy this year. I could see a lot of the middle of the road teams that have a tough schedule take a step backthis year with how stacked the top few teams are.

Idk, the "1st v last place" schedule accounts for two games. In your scenario, we'd be at best 4-2 and would need the benefit of those last place games to tie it up.

I think the last time someone went 6-0 in the division and missed the playoffs was 2010 Raiders.

Interesting, I wouldn't mind locking up Quinnen Williams to a long term deal if we got the opportunity.

That would be a great pickup if we could sign him to an extension. What do you think it would take? Would a 3rd or 4th get it done?

I bet the jets will hold out for a while to try to get something higher, but I would be more than happy if we could get him for a 3rd

The key is winning our first home game vs Indy. A lot of people think both Tenn and Indy will be bad. We don't play Tenn and Indy again until the last few weeks, when both may be in full tank mode. A split with Jax and we could be 5-1 in division. Or at least 4-2. If this happens we are either winning the South or in contention for a wild card.

This afc west teams have tough schedules and if KC dominates, the other 3 could be under .500. I think the AFC East could be a dogfight with a 10-7 champ and the other 3 close.

In the first 6 games the Jags play Indy twice, KC, Houston and 2 games vs Atl and Buf in London.

I thinks it's very possible that the Jags and Texans are tied at 3-3 with Tenn and Indy already starting to consider tanking with 1 or 2 wins each. The Jags will only have 5 home games left at that point including games with SF and Cincy.

Houston only plays 4 games vs. playoff teams (not counting Bradyless TB) and 2 of these games are week 1 and 3 on the road. This easy schedule is the main reason I think CJ can have a strong rookie season and Will Anderson will be Von Miller like.

Yeah, after him having his public hissy fit about Myles Garrett getting more sack opportunities than him, I don't think we need him in this locker room.

Agreed. I think keeping the BoB era in the rearview is best for the organization. Clowney gives nothing here.

Yea I'm not advocating for him either. He was pretty vocal about getting out of town and made his way to Seattle with Duane Brown. I just think it's interesting that a guy who wanted out of town so badly is willing to go on the record as wanting to come back. I'm curious about how much of that is due to him not seeing much interest in the free agent market vs how much he'd rather just specifically be in Houston. I do think it's noteworthy that the environment around the team that resulted in some good players leaving town is in a different place now. Duane Brown, Hopkins, Clowney, and Watt leaving town isn't nothing (Watson left off this list for obvious reasons.) I choose to look at it with more of a sense of optimism than Clowney desperation.
