Yes, but it sets an awful precedent to go out and hand that much money to a guy that acts that way. Bad nights are excusable from time-to-time, showing a lack of effort is not. If this is what he does in a money year, in a must win game…can you imagine what he will do when he's already secured a big money contract? That screams un-tradeable salary to me

So were Philly and KC not must win games?

Ferguson was ass tonight too. Should we franchise him because he has played great until tonight? Only player that deserves a franchise tag this year is Brandon Aubrey.

You have no idea how any of this works do you?

I wouldn't waste a franchise tag on a player like Pickens to keep him an additional year at upwards of 25 million, if he can't play for four quarters unless injured. Remind me not to ask you for financial advice.

Goodness. You really have no idea how the nfl operates and it shows. Getting Pickens for $25MM next year would be a steal.

Getting George Pickens at his current level of production for $25 million a year would be the biggest steal in all of professional sports, excluding superstars on rookie contracts. That's nearly 20% below his market value. The only players making 15-20+% below market value on a second contract in any sport are those with serious legal or injury concerns.

Now the franchise tag would be higher than that and you'd actually save money by signing him to a longer term deal, but the point is that you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about if you believe $25 million is a lot for a 1500+ yard receiver. It's arguably the third most important position in the sport these days.

Unlike you we understand in a 17 game season, you're not going to be perfect every game. Pickens is the biggest reason this team was even contending in the first place. He had been playing at an all-pro level and had a bad night. It's football.

This. He has been carrying my fantasy team almost every week. CeeDee has had his bad games, too, and more of them.

I think WRs can get unfairly called out sometimes on TV... if a WR goes balls to the wall on EVERY pass play, he can maybe run 3-4 routes before needing a breather. There are definitely plays that they take off when the ball is not going to them. Hell, the coordinators probably call it that way sometimes just to keep their best guys fresh and on the field instead of the sidelines.

I think sometimes a guy can mess up and take a play off that they weren't supposed to. Call it a brain fart... no different than an O-line guy that can't remember the snap count that was told to him 10 seconds prior.

The point being, I do not think Pickens has or is quitting. He might have messed up a play call, but the guy has done nothing but ball out and I don't recall a single time where you see him on the sidelines pouting or getting mad at somebody. Guy is giving everything he's got. And to that point, so is CD. He's had some really bad drops this year, but CD and Pickens are giving everything and giving up their bodies trying to make plays... and they both have made a ****-ton of plays for us this year!

The reality is that the offense has to be basically perfect because of how atrocious the defense has been (sans a couple of games).

It heightens the urgency of every possession and every play. It puts them under the microscope.

I don't think you ever intend to build such a one-sided roster, but here we are. The offense is our advantage, and if we don't max out that advantage, more often than not, we'll lose.

They were, but the point is you cannot pay someone that acts like that in a must win game. ESPECIALLY when your other star receiver leaves the game with a concussion. That's just business, you don't pay the people you can't rely on.

Gave up 44 points and still would have won the game without the Ferguson penalty and a couple of uninspiring red zone trips. Not even asking for a good defense - just one that doesn't repeatedly let teams get out of 1st and 25, 1st and 20...heck, DET usually only needed 2 plays.

the boys were never winning that game - didn't even come close to stopping Detroits offense
