really can't call a timeout there

WR's killed the Eagles

Play would take 5. 9ers would take 15 running 3 plays. Punting with 23. Eagles would get the ball at their own 40 with 15 seconds left. Not impossible, but the TO wasn't that important. May as well have called it to get the play call right.

Eagles and 9ers. Not much for a Cowboy fan to choose from. But since we've been irrelevant for 30 years, I guess I don't hate SF as much. Plus, anybody watching Philly knows they just aren't a very good team, and it's time their luck ran out.

Still waiting for Iraqx2 update. The final score can actually change until he posts. As a niners fan, he may be indisposed.

It was great to watch the 49ers upset the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles 23-19 on the road to advance to the divisional round. The 49ers have won 5 consecutives wildcard playoff games in 2002, 2013, 2021, 2022, and 2025 and 3 of them on the road in 2013, 2021, and 2025. The 49ers snapped two Eagles' playoff winning streaks. I noticed a few more stats:

1. The 49ers snapped the Eagles' 4-game playoff winnings by handing them their first playoff loss since a 32-9 road loss to the Buccaneers on 1/15/23.

2. The 49ers snapped the Eagles' 5-game home playoff winning streak by handing them their first home playoff loss since a 17-9 loss the Seahawks in a 2019 Wildcard playoff game on 1/5/2020.

3. With the Rams and 49ers both winning road playoff games on Wild Card Weekend, the NFC West sent three teams to the divisional round. For the 2nd time in 4 years and the 4th time ever, one division has sent three teams to the divisional round. The last time it happened came back in 2022 when the NFC East sent the Giants, Cowboys and Eagles to the divisional. The previous times were in 1997 when the NFC Central sent the Vikings, Buccaneers and Packers to the divisional, and in 1992 when the NFC East sent the Redskins, Eagles, and Cowboys.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfc-west-pulls-off-rare-playoff-feat-three-teams-divisional-round/

4. It's insane how all 4 wildcard playoff games have been decided by 4 points or fewer, and the road team won 3 of them. I won't be surprised if all 6 wildcard playoff games end up being decided by decided by 7 points or fewer.

As the lowest remaining seed in the NFC, the 49ers will play another road game against the No. 1 Seahawks. I would love for the 49ers to avenge a 13-3 home loss in Week 18 by beating the Seahawks on their home field.

It took 6 edits, but it's still official. Like an edict from an ancient Persian king, the Niners win is now irrevocable, and have been recorded by the chronicler.

Yes, it took 7 edits because I noticed more trends, including the NFC West sending 3 teams to the divisional round.

- Besides SF, the other road win was by the Rams, who won 12 games, over Carolina, who made the playoffs despite a losing record.

The NFC West has 3 teams with 12 or more wins, while the NFC South winner (Carolina) had a losing record.

And how crazy is it that the lowest remaining seed is a 12 win team.

And when did record vs common opponents become the tiebreaker ahead of conference record? I thought SF's 9-3 conference record would have given them the edge over LA (7-5 in conference).

Actually, the road team won 3 of the first 4 Wild Card games. The other two road wins were the Rams and Bills.

Yes, the NFC West is the first division in NFL history with three teams of 12+ wins (14-3 Seahawks, 12-5 Rams, and 12-5 49ers), and they're the only three teams from the NFC to hit that mark this season. How fitting for the NFC West to have three 12+ win teams and send all of them to the divisional round.

Yes, it's crazy how the 49ers are the lowest remaining seed but a 12-5 team. The 12-5 Rams finished ahead of the 12-5 49ers because the Rams' 9-3 common opponents record gives them the edge over 49ers' 8-4 common opponents record.

Common Opponents Breakdown
Seahawks and Cardinals: Rams 3-1; 49ers 3-1
Panthers, Buccaneers, Falcons, and Saints: Rams 2-2; 49ers 3-1
Jaguars, Texans, Colts, and Titans: Rams 4-0; 49ers 2-2
Overall common opponent record: Rams 9-3; 49ers 8-4

To Break A Tie Within A Division
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory in all games.
6. Strength of schedule in all games
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed in all games.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed in all games.
9. Best net points in common games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss

To Break A Tie For The Wild-Card Team
If it is necessary to break ties to determine the three Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.

If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tiebreaker.
If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory in all games.
5. Strength of schedule in all games.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed in all games.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed in all games.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.

https://www.nfl.com/standings/tie-breaking-procedures

To summarize, common opponents record comes before conference record for two teams in the same division, but conference record comes before common opponents record for two teams from different divisions. It makes sense because two teams in the same division have 12 games against common opponents, but two teams from different divisions have only 4 games common opponents. For example, the 49ers and Eagles have 4 games against common opponents: Rams (2 for 49ers and 1 for Eagles), Giants (1 for 49ers and 2 for Eagles), Buccaneers (1 for 49ers and 1 for Eagles), and Bears (1 for 49ers and 1 for Eagles).

Ha, what are you talking about? He's obnoxious, in the same vein as Sean Payton. Currently leads all active NFL head coaches in winning percentage, and that doesn't look to change anytime soon.

Eagles are part of the class of the NFL when it comes to roster management, contract negotiations, draft evaluation, player development . . . and winning football games. He's been there 5 seasons and 3 of his assistants went on to be head coaches. He's pretty damn good.

I'm an Eagles fan, probably not many of us on here. We found ways to lose this year. I hate that Sirianni can't keep his OC. Each time he's hired from the outside, we've been to the SB. When he promotes from within, that guy sucks and gets let go the next season.

To be honest, the NFL is more fun when the Cowboys are in contention. Jerry always thinks you guys are "one play away" or "one player away". I used to revel in the futility, but actually it would be nice to see Dallas back near the top. Maybe if Jerry gets 1 more he will retire and give it to Stephen.

he is a baseball manager- his coordinators do all of the coaching. Howie Roseman picks the players - he doesn't pick the coordinators, Howie does. He doesn't pick the players or call plays. He even has a guy that tells him when to call time outs.

The guy has the top roster in the NFL - even Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl with a loaded team

Someone posted on reddit that the Eagles loss to the 49ers was the 8th time since the 2017 season that the third seed of the NFC has lost in the wild card round. The only exception is the 2023 Detroit Lions.

Since the 2002 realignment, the NFC's No. 3 seed is 9-15 in the Wildcard Round and 2-7 in the Divisional Round. The 2003 Panthers and the 2023 Lions were the only No. 3 seeds to reach the NFC Championship Game.

Lost in Wildcard Round (15x):
2002 Packers, 2004 Packers, 2005 Buccaneers, 2008 Vikings, 2010 Eagles, 2013 Eagles, 2015 Vikings, 2017 Rams, 2018 Bears, 2019 Saints, 2020 Seahawks, 2021 Cowboys, 2022 Vikings, 2024 Buccaneers, and 2025 Eagles

Lost in Divisional Round (7x):
2006 Eagles, 2007 Seahawks, 2009 Cowboys, 2011 Saints, 2012 Packers, 2014 Cowboys, and 2016 Seahawks

Lost NFC Championship Game (1x):
2023 Lions

Lost Super Bowl (1x):
2003 Panthers

Or they could end up being like the Raiders with late stage Al Davis and his son Mark. (I honestly have no idea if Stephen Jones is competent or not.)
